The Good: Exciting DVD mini-games loaded with Ice Age video clips.

The Challenging: Ice Age theme might turn off non-fans.

In a Nutshell: An interactive DVD/board game, ideal for younger fans of Ice Age.

Based on the popular Ice Age movie franchise, this DVD/trivia game offers fun for kids and parents alike. View larger.

Fun, Straightforward Game-play Ideal for Younger Audiences
All of the action takes place on a colorful board with an appropriate, icy theme. The game pieces have been modeled after the main characters from the film: Manny and Ellie (both mammoths), Diego the saber-toothed tiger, and Sid the sloth. The figures are detailed, colorful, and convincing -- certain to charm fans of the movie.

Players begin by arranging 24 tiles in a six by four grid at the center of the board. Since the tiles are shuffled and placed randomly, you'll never play through the same board twice -- each game experience is unique. Once the board is set up, it's a race to find all four of your acorns. Players take turns flipping over tiles of their choice, in search of their acorns. Be careful, though: if you flip over the wrong tile, you might awaken Rudy, a frightful dinosaur who will send you back to your starting position.

The rules of the game are straightforward, and kids should have no trouble learning how to play. If they're struggling with the written instructions, they can watch the easy-to-follow video tutorial on the DVD.

    Interactive DVD Keeps Game Exciting
The entire game is played alongside the interactive DVD. With each turn you take, the DVD presents you with one of eight mini-games. Ranging from puzzles to memory tests, these mini-games are fast-paced and give the game a digital aspect. Since it requires DVD operation, this game is best played with adult supervision. This isn't too much of a concern, however: the mini-games are engaging enough to keep even adults entertained.

The DVD's production values are impressive, and the menus and music channel the spirit of the Ice Age films to the players. It is loaded with clips from all three Ice Age movies, which play periodically through the game. Parents should be mindful that the some of the scenes (particularly those featuring the antagonist, Rudy) might be a bit too intense for younger viewers. For this reason, it's recommended for ages 6 and up.

    What's in the Box
DVD, game board, 24 double-sided board tiles, 5 game movers, instruction sheet.

This game is a hit in our house. I have a 6 year old and 11 year old and they are huge fans of all the Ice Age Movies. Therefore getting this game was a no brainer. Even my 11 year old is enjoying it, of course I don't know for how much longer. I wouldn't buy this for older kids because it's too simple, however I think it's perfect for Kindergarten aged kids. It's educational and they don't even realize it. You do need an older child or an adult who can use the remote for the DVD game because you can't play the game without a DVD player. I recommend it for anyone with younger children who love the Ice Age movies as it keeps them entertained and it shows little clips of the little squirrel trying to get his acorn. I even enjoy playing this with my kids as I hear their laughing and giggling. No more than 4 players per game. I wish I could find more games like this one.

I bought this game for my children via Amazon two years ago (2010). My children are now 5 and 7 years old and they still love this game. It is fun for adults to play too. When other children come over to play on a rainy or cold day this game is a big hit. The clips are from Ice Age movies 1-3. The only reason I gave it four stars is because the characters do not talk in the clips (just Skritch). I'm sure it has something to do with copywrite and using an actor's voice. Also, if your children are not adept at the remote yet, an adult has to play with them--but we enjoy playing so it is not an issue at our house. Fun family game night game!

We actually did not know what to expect when we purchased this game as a Christmas gift for our daughter. Overall, it isn't bad. There is educational value with counting and color recognition. My only wish would be for more variety in the mini-games that you play on the DVD player. There are some scenes from all of the movies, which is nice. Although Scrat is not one of the game characters, the clips are mostly of his antics. The use of Rudy the dinosaur as the game's villain is a little complicated the first time you play the game. I am sure we will enjoy it more when we have a chance to play it again. I would recommend this game to Ice Age fans.

It's a good thing I bought this when it was on-sale because it is not worth the money. We own six of the SceneIt DVD Games and love them all. This game is not like the others - it is simply Mini-Games that you play over and over again which is extremely boring. There are no trivia cards, My Play or All-Play included at all. Some of the cut scenese were cute...the first time through, but they replay those as well. We played it once and I guarantee we won't ever play it again.

We ordered this after reading the 5 star reviews. We probably should have taken a closer look at the description. We really thought this would be more of a trivia type game, since it is made by the Scene-it company, but there is no trivia at all. You could replace the video clips and game pieces with some other theme and it wouldn't alter the game at all. OK for 4-7 year olds, but my wife and I were getting tired of it about halfway through the first sitting. From now on our kids can play this on their own.

      Quick description:

The objective is to collect 4 acorns that are your color (the space you start from). At the beginning of each turn, you get to turn over a tile, revealing an acorn or a blank tile. You move around the board collecting your acorns as they become available. The number of spaces you are allowed to move is determined by the DVD portion of the game. There are 8 mini-games that you play (like acorns under a shell that you have to follow with your eyes). Some of the games require skill, and some are pure luck (like a Plinko-type game). The results of the each game will let you move 1, 2, or 3 spaces. Each mini-game is proceeded by one of eight video clips from the movie. You end up seeing the same clips several times during each game.

Got this game when my daughter was 2 years old and never posted a review. She is 5 now and we all still have family night and play it. The games are slightly repetitious, but we don't mind and my daughter loves it. We have worn the board in half actually, but still play on it at least once a week. :) It's a keeper if you love ICE AGE!

Got this game for my niece and she had a lot of fun with it. I've never personally played it but my brother told me my niece likes it a lot.

This game is very entertaining but not too difficult to play. The characters that pop up on TV are just as wonderful as in the movies. Fun for all ages with a good variety of action to be played. Not boring for adults and with help almost any age can play, including the little ones!! The alligator is not too scary, which was one of the concerns I had before purchase. Loved by everyone in the family!
