Amazon Considering Raising Prime by $20 to $40

papasteves02 1,309 February 3, 2014 at 10:53 AM
On its recent earnings call [seekingalpha.com], Amazon mentioned that it is considering raising the price of Amazon Prime $20 to $40 from its current rate of $79. Citing the "increased cost of fuel, transportation...[and] increased usage among Prime members", Amazon is looking to pass on some of those costs to its customer base.

It was only last quarter that Amazon announced it was raising the threshold for Free Shipping on non-Prime orders from $25 to $35.

We know that many in the Slickdeals community subscribe to Amazon Prime. Sound off below. Would you pay over $100 for free 2-day shipping (and free streaming and Kindle book borrowing)?

I would rather they keep it at $80 and unbundle the stream and kindle book borrowing. I find I don't really use any of those services, so I'd rather they just break them out on their own.

Agreed.

I would prefer the option of splitting the services..

I hardly ever touch any of their streaming options and never ever use the Kindle book borrowing service.

No way! They don't have any new movies and the once a month free kindle book choice is lame. Besides, when I actually tried to get my money's worth and watch an old TV series, I went over my data limit for my cable company.

Hell yeah I would. I'm saving a hell of a lot more than $100/year on shipping with the family sharing going on.

Hmmm... Since they now charge me sales tax as well (MA), I might be a little hesitant to pay an additional premium.

I only pay $39 for Prime since I have a student email address. I don't use it for much of anything besides the shipping portion. Stick Out Tongue
