I think that just means they're not PMing their own ad. You can't buy something that Target will sell on Black Friday now and just PM the day of.

What's more concerning is that they said they won't PM things that are out of stock the day of. So you're counting on the item being in stock at the competitor when you go in and ask for a PM...

Here's some info about how to get online price matching:

Best Buy
From: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Help-...4400050011 (scroll to the very bottom)
Quote :
Is Best Buy currently running any tests or promotions under the Price Match Guarantee?

Yes. Best Buy will match the new, identical, immediately available current pre-tax appliance and electronics hardware products price for these designated major retailers: Amazon.com, Apple.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Buy.com, Circuitcity.com, CompUSA.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, hhgregg.com, hp.com, homedepot.com, lowes.com, newegg.com, officedepot.com, officemax.com, Sears.com, Staples.com, Target.com, Tigerdirect.com, and walmart.com. Appliance and electronics hardware products include audio hardware, video hardware, cameras, camcorders, desktop computers, notebook computers, e-Readers, tablets, TVs, MP3 players, small appliances, major appliances, gaming handheld devices and consoles. Best Buy will not price match accessories, during the return and exchange period or the online prices of third party vendors (Marketplace Vendors) on major retailer websites. Valid for purchases made between October 7, 2012 - November 17, 2012 and November 27, 2012 - December 24, 2012. Best Buy may amend these terms at any time. All other terms and conditions of the Best Buy Price Match Guarantee apply. See Store for details.
Note that they don't say how you can go about claiming a price match. Can we show them an ad on our phone? Do we bring a print out of the website? Do we check the price using a computer at their store? It would be best to call your local Best Buy ahead of time to ask exactly what you need to show them. That way, when you get to the store, you won't be in a situation where they tell you that you brought the wrong documentation.

Sears

Retail Competitors - Online

If you find a lower online price (including any costs for shipping and handling, but not delivery) on an identical brand and model number currently available from a local competitor's retail store honoring its own online price and the item is currently available for sale and delivery in your area, Sears will match the price of the merchandise. Just print the ordering page (including the costs for shipping and handling), and bring it to your Sears store at the time of, or within 14 days after, your purchase. If you are purchasing the item from sears.com, please fill out a Price Match form. Sears will not price match internet-only retailers.
Note that there must be a B&M store in your area.

Staples

How does Staples’ price–match guarantee work?

If you find a lower price on a new identical item, just show us the lower price when you buy the item at Staples and we will match the price, or within 14 days of your Staples purchase and we will give you the difference (see full policy below for details).

Which competitors will Staples price match?

Staples retail stores will price match prices at brick–n–mortar retail stores and at Staples.com.

Staples.com will price match prices at select competitors' websites and Staples' retail stores. These select competitors are: Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Dell, Hewlett Packard, Office Depot, Office Max, Quill, Medical Arts Press, Reliable, Sam's Club, Wal–mart, WB Mason and Xerox. Items must be sold and shipped by one of these competitors.

Which items does Staples price match?

Almost everything we sell. The item must be identical, including model number, components and U.S. warranty. The item must be in stock and available for purchase at that price from an authorized U.S. reseller, whose authorization we reserve the right to verify. For wireless phones and other items with a service plan, only in–store purchases are eligible for price match. The plan, provider and other terms must be the same. Products and services purchased online at our Mobile Phone sales & service site are not eligible for price match.

Which items and services aren’t available for price match?

We don’t price match to competitor or our own local or special events (e.g. grand opening, anniversary, clearance or liquidation sales). We also don't price match: our Staples® EasyTechSM services. We don't price match items sold on auction sites; taxes and typographical errors; and gift cards, gift checks, or merchandise credits.

How do Staples coupons and rebates contribute to the Staples price?

All coupons and rebates (including Easy Rebates, instant rebates or savings, and Staples or manufacturer mail–in rebates) are deducted from the price of the Staples product when calculating a price match.

Will Staples match a competitor's price for a product where the competitor also offers and instant rebate, mail–in rebate, gift check or gift card, or free or discounted item?

If a competitor offers a product that comes with an instant rebate, mail–in rebate, gift check or gift card, or similar discounts, we will only match the price you pay at the point of purchase and will not take such discounts into account. If a competitor offers a product that comes with a free or discounted item and Staples does not carry the free or discounted item and Staples does not carry the free or discounted item, we will only match the price you pay at the point of purchase and will not take the free or discounted item into account.

Are delivery charges included in the price match?

It will depend on whether your Staples.com order received free shipping, and whether the competitor offers free shipping.

If your Staples.com order received free shipping and the competitor offers free shipping, we will price match the product without considering shipping charges. If your Staples.com order received for free shipping and the competitor does not offer free shipping, we will include an appropriate shipping charge in the competitor's price before price matching.

If your Staples.com order did not receive free shipping and the competitor offers free shipping but the product does not qualify for such free shipping, or the competitor does offer free shipping, we will include shipping charges on both products before price matching.

Are quantities limited on price–matched products?

We may limit the quantities of price–matched items, particularly if the other company does. In addition, we reserve the right to limit quantities sold to a customer.

Policy information is available by calling 1–800–333–3330. For a price match, see customer service desk in store or call 1–800–333–3330. This policy is subject to change without notice. Effective as of December 5, 2011.
Like Best Buy, Staples does not tell you how to claim a price match. Call your local store in advance!

  • Excludes Target stores in Alaska and Hawaii.
  • Limit quantity of 1 online price match per identical item, per guest.
  • Must bring in original Target receipt when requesting the price match by Dec. 16.

For Fry's price match, I tried to show them a better price for some item on amazon.com via my phone. In the end, the manager showed up and told me that since for that amazon.com item, they are actually "resellers" for a 3rd party vendor (aka in amazon they show "sold by abc corp"), Fry's wouldn't honor such price match. It would have to be sold exclusively BY Amazon.

At that point I figured the price match "guarentee" is a piece of junk and I walked out of there.

Oh yeah, the Fry's sales guy kept telling me how it's cheaper to buy it from Fry's before I walked out because I have to pay shipping and what not (this was before Amazon CA tax), and I told him I had prime. So I ordered it right there on amazon.com and left.

Yes, I believe that's true for all of the stores that price match Internet prices. Amazon Marketplace stores don't count; only Amazon itself. Otherwise, anyone could just go and list a ridiculously cheap item for sale themselves on Amazon Marketplace, then visit Fry's and show them that price and get them to match it.

Walmart will allow you to put something on layaway now and then pick up during Black Friday weekend and price match it to other stores (or their own BF price). Such as Nook Simple Touch on sale BF at Sears for $39. Walmart does not have the same item on BF but will price match - even if item is in layaway. The catch is - you must pick the item up from layaway during the same hours that the sale is going on at the other store and item must be an exact match. Some stores are shutting down layaway for certain hours so you have to find out if the item you want to price match will still be on sale once the layaway reopens. Our local Walmart is closing layaway from 5pm Thurs to 9 am Fri. The above mentioned Nook sale at Sears starts at 6 AM Fri - but no end time listed, so I will go up to Walmart Fri morning after 9 am and pick it up without having to deal with crowds.
There are many other items this can be used for as well, just remember that you have to be able to pick the item up from layaway during the time of the original store sale and some layaway's will be closed for certain hours.
This was all verified through a relative who works for Walmart and specifically in lay away department.

It's treated like a price match from any other store. The fact that it's Sam's Club doesn't matter. However, keep in mind that it has to be the exact same product. Sam's Club sells some items in bulk, so Walmart couldn't match those prices unless Walmart was also selling the same bulk item.

FYI, Sears will not adjust (or pricematch their own) if you made a purchase from Thanksgiving Day thru Cyber Monday. I made an appliance purchase on Thanksgiving Day thinking that it's the lowest price for the fridge only to find a week later that the Friends and Family discount is $50 cheaper. They will not adjust, they told me to cancel the order and re-order. What a pain! No wonder they are in trouble. They don't even have the capability to email you a transcript of your conversation with a chat rep or even have a reference number for the chat. Also I was able to waive the delivery fee after I've ordered the fridge online. On the 2nd go round, they will not guarantee for it to be waived unless I order the item over the phone. Waiving delivery fee is very YMMV. I prefer ordering big ticket items online so I can get my 5-10% CB.

Price Protection Policy

Buy with confidence from Sears. If an item you have purchased from Sears goes on sale for a lower price within 14 days of your purchase, Sears will refund the difference. All Price Match rules and exclusions apply including no Price Protection adjustments between Thanksgiving Day and the Monday after Thanksgiving.
