wave Welcome to the Market Basket Thread wave

We would like to thank misterchimpy for starting the Market Basket grocery store thread and for helping those users get the best deals at Market Basket despite their lack of web presence. This has helped to save users in MA + NH a lot of $$$ at Market Basket and give them an idea for what deals to look for.

Thread Rules
1) Anyone can work in the wiki.
2) Disagreements are a part of life, discuss them civilly please.
3) If someone does something to offend you (me included), or mentions wrong coupon use, don't throw them under the bus in the thread. Public ridicule is uncool! Politely mention the correct way or PM the person and settle it there.
4) Minor OT is fine (and fun!), but let's not get too excessive.
5) Coupon requests and trades are fine with me as long as they follow SD guidelines.
6) If you have a blog and use any info from the wiki and/or thread, of if you procure info from another site and post it here, please give credit and thanks where credit and thanks is due.

A) Please see this post from misterchimpy about a brief overview of what Market Basket is all about and their lack of web presence.

B) Please see this post for the history of them suing each other. OMG

Ongoing Unadvertised Deals
Here's the place to add things that are just good deals. Please post the date you found the deal. If you notice that a deal has ended, please post that as a comment. Once confirmed, we'll remove it from the list.

rotisserie chicken 3.99 (regular price!)
MB American cheese (deli) 2.99/lb (regular price!)
Pepito Corn Tortillas(in refrigerated section) .99-$1 peelie=FREE

Remember: MB often has multi-week sales but only advertises them during one ad. So the sale may be for three weeks and advertised in the second week but not the first or second. This makes it appear the sale started early or ended late. Weekly sales are often turned on Saturday (or sale prices posted and thus honored) so don't be afraid to look for deals before or after you see them in the ad.

COUPON ALERT
Be on the look out in store for the following manufacturer and store coupons.

- Save $1 when you buy any two cans Lucky Leaf Pie Filling exp 12/31/11
-$1/2 Pillsbury items (any maybe) peelies, cake mix is 1.19

Coupon Policy
MB does not have an official coupon policy-or not one they are willing to admit to. The bare minimum we have figured out is that they:
do take insert coupons
do take printable coupons
do take coupons for free items
do take bogo coupons
do not accept expired coupons
do take a MB coupon and a manufacturer coupon for the same item unless excluded (please read fine print on coupons for exclusions)
do not give overage-coupons are redeemed for face value only
do need to know if the coupon needs adjusting-register will lock up if $1 coupon is scanned for .99 item and require manager override

No posts since February 4th? I check every now and again and nothing. I'm tried to find the online flier and they haven't posted it in a while. I think MB is just over all cheaper and they don't have to do crazy deals and wierd promotions which make things free.

Two things I got this week that were good for me... I used some $1 off q for the Marcal-Small Steps TP 4pack which was $1.19. $.19 for four rolls of TP I really need was a score. I'm hoping they start to carry the other sizes of Marcal as there was just a $2 q but for a larger size.

The MB brand whole wheat pasta was on sale for $1 a box, making it less per pound than the Trader Joes brand. That's about it... not very slick, but thought I'd post to see if anyone was out there!!wave

MB's deals all depends. If you have Hannaford in your area, I find them cheaper than Market Basket for quite a bit of things and about the same price for many more things. More particularly, I've seen Market Basket have very high health and beauty prices and I pay $1 less per item on everything I buy in this dept at Hannaford vs what I would pay at Market Basket. Of course, Market Basket has their deals too, such as their $3.99 rotisserie chickens. But I've found it all averages out in the end and there are many ways I find Hannaford better. I never have to wait 20 minutes plus in line to get out during peak days like the day before Thanksgiving at Hannaford, versus I always find Market Basket doesn't keep the lines moving as well as Hannaford in my area. Plus, the quality in bakery (I agree Market Basket is lower but Hannaford definitely has more and better selection), meat (same thing here too), deli (everything is always fresher at Hannaford), and produce (same thing here too) are all better.

Plus, Hannaford is all around a much cleaner store.

Sometimes I may go to Stop and Shop or Shaws for few item stops in which I know I will get a good price and many times you can find something in these stores for much lower than you would ever pay at Market Basket. Many times I do walk out of the store feeling like I got a great deal vs what I would pay at MB or Hannaford since I wouldn't pay like $.89 for a cucumber, which is what Shaws charges, when I know that same cucumber goes for $.59 at Hannaford and I want 6 of them. Plus, I know that these store are much less likely to have a huge line vs Market Basket because of self checkout and have what I am looking for in stock.

Wow! The Hannaford near me is waaaaaaaaay overpriced for no double coupons! Definitely more than Market Basket!!

I too am sorry not to see the thread more active, but fact is, I use MB more these days for the items I can't get deals on at the other local stores. I'd never buy health and beauty at MB or Hannaford with all the deals at WAGS, Rite Aid and CVS, unless it was a one-off emergency purchase.

love love love Market Basket!!!!

Total agreement with you on the health and beauty. I haven't been down that aisle in at least a year. I usually figure out my CVS, Wags and Shaw's runs for the week and then get everything else at MB. When you aren't sure... it's always cheaper at Market Basket!

I found some new "Market Basket" brand items that are really well-priced!

There's the whole wheat pasta that is just like the Barilla for $1.19 a box and today I found a Septic system treatment just like Rid-X for $3.99 a box as compared to the Rid-x for $6.99!

Yay!

I haven't gotten into MB yet this week, but here are some things I like.

MB Amercian Cheese $1.99/lb - this is the rock bottom sale for this. At this price I buy the whole 5lb brick and divide and freeze. This price hasn't been around in well over a year, but about 6 weeks ago it was back. I'm well-stocked, but thought I'd list it anyway.

Foxy romaine hearts for $1.50
Cottonelle 24pk for $4.99 plus a Q... hope they aren't out of stock!
Frozen Fish Fillets for $3.99/lb - I get haddock and more expensive fish when it is at this price.
MB hotdog rolls $.99 for 8. Just spent $1 at shaws this week, but want to get some in the freezer.
MB grape jelly for $.99 - that's my stock up price.
green beans for $.89
baby carrots for $.99/lb

Happy warm spring weekend! Let's all scan the MB flier this weekend and see what we can find for next week!
Cool

That's about $.17/roll (single). Is that a good price these days? I was so stocked up on tp that I haven't purchased in a year and haven't a clue what is 'good' now. I do like Cottonelle, though.

It seems a lot of people are running low on TP, myself included, since there hasn't been a great sale on it recently so to me this one is pretty good, not the best I've ever seen but still a good deal especially if you like cottonelle and thats our preferred brand.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up on this thread, unfortunately, not only did they stop updating the website with new circulars, but then it seems like that they took the website down entirely!

Really staggering in this day and age that a multi billion dollar retailer does not even have a website for its customers.
