Both and recently. He was doing it before and I hoped it would be done with once he was fixed. I actually watched him scratch at my son's door a few days ago and when he couldn't get in he turned around and used the litter box instead.
Ok first, regardless of if he's fixed..he's got his scent in your son's bedroom (crappy as that might be...literally). Throw out, change what you can and buy this product that is supposed to completely remove whatever scent an animal leaves behind when peeing/pooping/marking territory. It doesn't work 100% of the time but it does help. I can't remember the name...Catluvr probably knows.
Secondly..if he's just recently been declawed...the kitty litter can hurt where his claws have been removed. (Just the front to paws, right?) The little bits get up in his paws and cause pain...so he might be associating litter with pain. At an animal shelter I worked at a lot of animals who were declawed had this problem. Fill his litter box with shredded newspaper for a few days..even if his paws feel ok now..and see if that helps.
this is why we need you around here.
To add to that, I think you're the most beautiful and humble person I've ever "met."
