Thread Details

First of all, mods please move this thread if it doesn't belong in Hot Deals, but since the previous comprehensive thread regarding Staples updating its recycling program was posted here I thought I'd do the same...

Here's some bad news for volume Staples ink recyclers. I was informed by the manager of my local store that a recent email went out to stores which instructs employees to limit ink recycling to 3 cartridges per day per customer. This may not sound like a change, but for those of us who have multiple Rewards accounts (even with completely different names and addresses for each account) this makes the daily trip possibly not even worth it.

When I asked for clarification she told me that the initial email had been sent several days ago to stores where records had indicated that multiple batches of three cartridges were being recycled all at the same time, but that the policy would apply to all stores (i.e., if you're thinking about just doing the same thing but at a different store, forget it). She claimed that corporate was saying the idea of the program was to get people into the store, and when only one actual person does the recycling for several the company decided to tighten the rules. (BTW, this is not simply a case of a cranky manager not wanting to deal with a lot of recycling. The manager in question is exceptionally helpful and straightforward. In addition, I was forewarned by an assistant manager several days ago who had read the same email before the manager did that changes might be coming.)

Has anyone else who recycles at Staples using more than one account been told the same thing? I always thought that recycling is a winner for both the customer and the store, but perhaps not. In my case it simply isn't worth it to sniff out parking and deal with traffic issues to only be able to recycle three cartridges each time I visit the store.

This post can be edited.....

Starting July 1, 2010 each cartridge returned will have a value of $2 and not $3.

Ink Recycling only 10 per month per member as of 2/1/09. It really sux and nothing to do about it. Just got the flyer today. Don't shoot the messenger.

*** But premier member gets double recycling limit, that is 20.. ***thcheat

10 per month means $30.........

1/02/10 I know someone had asked before about having multiple accounts and I just wanted to let everyone know the exact way it works. I know this because I have a couple family members that we all have accounts and things got pretty screwed up because we ordered and shipped to different addresses.

If you use a rewards credit on any order online, you MUST ship to that address. You can not ship it anywhere else. The billing address can be different but the shipping address must be the same as the rewards number.

This is right from Staples CSR in delivery on 1/2/10 ...chewybtc

OfficeMax is 10 per week per account. Staples has been three per account per day for a long time.

Office Depot used to allow to turn in the ink cartridges to exchange for $3 each coupon and use it on the spot. A couple of weeks ago, they told me that all ink cartridges money would go to my reward account first. That is exactly the same as what Staples has been doing. Sucks!

well okay..besides the fact of me finding myself a pack rat (I keep Staples ads from old excellent deals..don't ask why...just a hobby I guess..) Couldn't find any ad with mention of the ink recycling from 2007..but found a 2006 one in September mentioning..10 recycled carts per day...limit 3 redeemed per day...Hp, Dell, Lexmark.
..wow..this is what I get for not shopping at Staples as often as I used to..I'm completely out of their policies now..I guess the change was back in February of this year looking at an old SD thread to 3 per day...I guess I must have been recycling my Canon inks before I signed up for SD....how time flies..
..anyway main point: they should just get rid of the damn policy altogether..it's such bullsh*t now.

i just want to say this before the whining begins

okay so they changed their policy. we shouldn't always feel so entitled to a great deal... if they changed their policy, then we'll just have to live with it. at least they're giving us something to recycle our cartridges...

informative post. people won't like it and it will turn into a thread full of whining...

You can still recycle them at OD and OM...I'm just saying how they followed suit and I'm disappointed by what was once such a great company..They used to be the pinnacle of cart. recycling etc. You can still recycle them you know..not throw them away..Staples is doing it as a favor, but I have a feeling it's going down hill..every couple of months..more and more restrictions..

not sure if its a policy change , their just telling the employees to not take more than 3 from 1 customer, like my uncle who sometime tries to turn in 6 on 2 accounts. Thats why i make my GF go after work.

LOL

this isnt much of a policy change at all... what the complaint. i have multiple accounts for multiple addresses i have been dropping off 3 inks per store. never tried to drop off for multiple accounts at one store. i happen to have alot of staples on my way to work, only have to take a total of about 15 minutes of detours. no big deal. those that have been dropping off for multiple accounts at one store; you cant really complain. The original policy was 3 cartridges per customer, so technically this is not a real policy change.

abuse the system and they'll change the rules... wave

as it has been said, the policy was 3 per customer anyway. i suppose now they will just be enforcing it more strictly.

wait a second, was it always 3 per day for staples?

and is the policy still there that you have to make a 30.00 purchase to recycle 3 of em? or is it gone already..
