When the temperature gets below 30 degrees, our passenger door on our Toyota Corolla won't stay shut. Every time you try to close the door, it just bounces back. It won't lock into place. If you sit in the car, hold the door closed, and blast the heat, the door will eventually shut, but this makes driving by yourself impossible. Anyone know what to do to fix this problem?
Ensure the latch is in the "open" position when you try to close the door in the first place. I had the same issue with my Jeep, except the latch on the car frame was in the "closed" position. The latch bar on the door would just hit it and bounce off. Not looking closely enough I just got pissed and slammed it... *crack*, broken latch, dealer wanted to replace the whole door.
I went to my car service guy back home and he spot welded it for $20, but it's worth checking.
