Thread Details

I saw a few threads stating how you can leave your cell phone plan early without paying an ETF if they raise the charges of your current contract. Well I just noticed that Dish Network is changing around their plans:

Quote :
Please note the following programming and monthly rate changes for AT&T | DISHNetwork Service: America's Top 100 will be renamed Classic Bronze 100 and repriced to $39.99*; America's Top 100 Plus will be renamed Classic Bronze 100 Plus and repriced to $49.99*; America's Top 200 will be renamed Classic Silver 200 and repriced to $52.99*; America's Top 250 will be renamed Classic Gold 250 and repriced to $62.99*; DishDVR Advantage America's Top 100 will be renamed DishDVR Advantage Classic Bronze 100 and repriced to $44.99; DishDVR Advantage America's Top 200 will be renamed DishDVR Advantage Classic Silver 200 and repriced to $57.99; DishLATINO will be renamed DishLATINO Clasico and repriced to $29.99*; DishDVR Advantage TurboHD Bronze will be repriced to $39.99; DishDVR Advantage TurboHD Silver will be repriced to $49.99; DishDVR Advantage TurboHDGold will be repriced to $59.99; America's Top 250 Bonus Pack will be renamedClassic Gold 250 Bonus Pack; America's "Everything" Pak will be repriced to$102.98*; Programming Access Fee will be renamed. The following new prices willalso apply: DishLATINO Plus-$34.99**; DishLATINO Dos-$42.99**; DishLATINOMax-$52.99**; DishLATINO Plus DVR Pack-$39.99; TurboHD Bronze-$34.99*;TurboHD Silver-$44.99*; TurboHD Gold-$54.99*; Russian Mega Pack-$33.99; S. AsianHindi Mega Pack-$56.99; Bengali Mega Pack-$34.99; Punjabi Pack-$19.99;HBO-$15.99; Playboy-$15.99; HD Enabling Fee-$5.00. Premium pricing will be asfollows: 2 Premium Channels-$22.00; 3 Premium Channels-$31.00; Existing DishDVRAdvantage** customers with more than one DVR will now pay $12.00/month for HDDVR receiver and $10.00/month for SD DVR receiver (Save $0.98). *Prices includelocals, $5/mo less without locals. **Price includes both with and without locals.
so since they are raising the price of their 200 channel package from $49.99 to $52.99 (the package that I have) can we do the same thing and get out of the contract? They are pissing me off and trying to charge me $103 this month even though the bill should be around $36.

i just called and tried to get out of the contract by saying i am allowed to since their current price increase adversly affects me thus voiding my contract and he had me look up the contract online.

using this section, he told me that dish network is allowed to change prices and keep us in contract. i then asked him "so technically you're saying that after a customer signs up for two years, dish network could raise the prices $20 per month and we would still be bound by the contract even though we signed when it was the cheaper amount?" he told me that they could and that rates usually go up once a year around feb or march for satellite companies. without reading the entire thing, i didin't want to try and fight with him since i didn't do research yet but if anyone could point out somewhere that allows us to waive the ETF when they raise rates, please post it here.

here is their terms of service [dishnetwork.com]

How is that your bill jumped from $36 to over $100? Thats about what I pay for a similar package. I wonder if I should be worrying...

i have the $49.99 package for 200 channels. i get a $5 discount for being bundled with at&t dsl internet. i'm SUPPOSED to also get a $10 per month credit towards my bill for the next ten months as a perk offered to me when i called in. i am also SUPPOSED to get the $5 extra room fee removed from the account.

$50-10-5-5 = $30 per month plus whatever taxes they charge.

this is also why i'm totally confused how i'm being charged $103. the only way it would work out is if i'm being charged for TWO months and getting ZERO credits that are showing on the account. Dish Network told me that the bill should have been $36.96 which is what was sent to at&t but i'm being charged $103 for this month. talking on the phone for two and one half hours didn't get it resolved today either but i don't want to get into that mess.

edit: i just looked over the ACTUAL contract that i signed when i first got dish network and nowhere does it state that dish network is allowed to raise the rates and keep me bound by the contract. i'm going to call back and mention this and have the guy point out on the paper that i signed where it says they can raise rates on me without voiding the contract. will update this post with results.

Good luck with that. Technically they could raise your bill $100 and drop everything but the shopping channels and you're still stuck.

well so far they seem to have completely ignored my e-mail questioning this. and the phone reps i talk to seem to get offended that i would even ask as if they invented television and i should be thankful i live in a world with one.

Yep just talked to these clowns last night. I signed up in Jan 2009 for the turbo HD bronze package at 24.99 /month. Not even one month later, they jacked the price up to $29.99. Argued for over 45 minutes with 3 different people on the phone. Last moron I spoke with told me all companies do this including cell phone companies and I ended up telling her she's a retard if she let a cell phone company change her monthly plan rate on her when she was in a contract. All I could get from them was a $5 credit for 12 months.
