Actually, I think most people are just signing up to see what comes of it. I have signed up for plenty of these groups . . . some I get stuff from, and some not. This is how the ALL YOU started, and many others.

it's ok i speak my peace give my opinion.
maybe i influence some maybe not.
it isn't how I started doing this. its part
of my web business and paid surveys is
all Ive done plus referrals to survey companies that pay.
those that don't, do not benefit me or my business
and in my opinion do not benefit any of you.

same with signing up with questionable freebie sites.
which is why I post what I do. it's business. nothing personal.

These are message boards intended for all different people, some like freebies, or sweepstakes and some just want pay surveys. That's everyone's own choice. It has been stated many times in numerous other threads by moderators that if you don't find something to your liking, then just move on. There's no need to preach your ethics to any one here. You can do that in the boycott thread.
