Thread Details

Hi all,
I am seeing this for the first time from Staples ( most of the other stores have this)
You can check the in Store Availability from the most of the product page from Staples.com using zip code!
Do not call them!

example:

I believe its not a repost! I have posted this in FW too!

Dont get what you are saying. What does FAR (Free After Rebate) have anything to do with this?
Are you jokin' around Pablo P.? If not, read that sentence again and you should see he means "FAR" as the word "far", i.e., 'far. farther, further', but stated with emphasis. Not as in 'free after rebate'.

I used to look for the 500 gb passport drive, but it's not accurate. It showed In stock all over ... but the systems at the store only show stock on a 1 or 2 stores around there..

Yeahhh, this is NOT a hot deal, and definitely doesn't belong in this forum. At first I thought you were listing the 320gb external drive, but had a horrible title. This is just plain bad

Ok, I'll be the first to say it.
How is this a Hot Deal?
In any case, you could always before call the 800 number and they would gladly check in-store availability without having to worry about 'tipping off' store employees. Is the online check a nice feature? Yes. SD worthy? Yes. Hot Deal? No.
It is a hot deal because it saves me gas money and also I don't waste my minutes on my cell phone from calling the 800 #.

the best system was CC buy on line pickup in store i will miss it
this is a step in the right direction but i do not think all the coupons we buy will work at the B&M

I used it today and it reported items in stock that weren't really in the store when I called to double check before wasting gas. Not entirely reliable. This wasn't for items that were on super sale or anything so calling was not tipping anyone off to anything.

Calling is the quickest way to have em tell you it is OOS! I was in a store not long ago and my store was out of a certain product. They looked it up on the store computer and saw the next closest store had (4) of these. When the assosciate called to get that item x-ferred to my local store or shipped straight to me, Guess what happened??? The store says sorry we, ughh, oh yea.. we are out of that sorry. Calling will screw you almost everytime.

I see you failed in reading comprehension, since obviously you didn't read what I said before you jumped to replying to it with some irrelevant story that makes no sense in comparison to my point. I never said call the store. For 90% of the situations that come up here, calling the STORE is a very bad choice. In your story, you admit to having one store employee call another store employee, which is an even stupider thing to do. However, that is once again irrelevant to my point, because it has nothing to do with what I said.
My primary point was that this is not a HOT DEAL, nor a deal whatsoever, simply an information announcement, and should be (and has been) moved to another forum.
I also pointed out that people could call the 800 number to Staples to get a inventory check for stores in a certain radius from your zipcode. This is a NATIONAL customer service number. Obviously, to any rational person, them checking their computers for stock counts is not going to tip off any employees at a store. It's not like when you hang up on Betty the CSR, she's going to call over to the store to warn all the employees to buy up your product before you get there.
It drives me crazy when you people (and I mean you people) take the 'Do Not Call' rule and completely misapply it to every circumstance. Next thing you will be saying is not to use the online inventory checking system because an employee might notice network traffic activity is going up, and investigate what product you are looking for....
