Thread Details

I received a mailer today from Select Comfort about a Sleep Number "demo bed clearance" going on through April 2009.

The mailer indicates the sale ends 5/1/09 for DEMO beds.
My wife and I have been through the retail store spiel only to find out though my chiropractor that they have demo beds available on a regular basis. We've been quoted pricing (in store) on these beds in the past. However the flier today reflects an even better price on these demo beds.

Just a note on demo beds... they are refirbs in a way...Floor samples, showroom models, returns (the regular priced beds have a 30 day return policy) or refused shipment deliveries.
KNOW THIS...THEY ARE A FINAL SALE!!
You must be committed to get one of these beds. they will not refund or return them for reasons other than warranty. NO 30 day tryouts..you own them.
They are rehabbed with NEW tops, covers and necessary replacement padding. The mechanicals, bladders and foundations are demos. They have a full warranty

An awesome deal compared to new.
The SC mailer has the following prices effective ending 5.1.09
Sleep number 3000 bed
  • Twin=$299 reg $450
  • Twin ex-long=$359 reg $550
  • Full=$429 reg $625

  • King=$699 reg $1049
Matching foundations

  • Twin ex-long=$189 reg $250
  • Full=$219 reg $275
  • Queen=$229 reg $300
  • King=$339 reg $450

Sleep number 5000 bed
  • Queen pillowtop=$999 reg $1,700
  • Exp Queen pillowtop=$1099 reg $1,850
  • King pillowtop (East or Cal)=$1199 reg $2,150

Matching foundations

  • Queen pillowtop=$229 reg $300
  • Exp Queen pillowtop=$269 reg $350
  • King pillowtop (East or Cal)=$339 reg $450

Shipping via UPS is $49.99 per mattress, foundation or set.

Both the 3000 and 5000 series beds are in the SC retail stores if anyone wants to take the time share tour of these beds. We, like others haven't exactly rolled out the $2,500 retail bling for a bed, that was until this Slick Deal came along!
Take the 20 min pitch(with your SO) in the stores to see for yourself what the hype is about with these things. We are pulling the trigger on a 5000 series this week.

This offer is available only by calling Select Comfort directly as far as the flier says so as always YMMV in store.

bought my sleep # bed (called select comfort back then) in 1999. Still sleeping in it... and no regrets! ... despite DH saying I sleep "in a hole". (I tell him he sleeps on a mtn so we're even!) Cool

Think of all the funk on those beds from all the creepy cretons "giving them a whirl". Even worse the salespeople who use them to ride the bone rollercoaster after hours.........I'll pass but reps to the OP for postingSmilie

What's the matching foundation? Is that like a box spring? Is it required or can you use any box spring?

I bought a new king-size bed from these people, but had to return it. My wife died on it and I didn't realize she was dead till five days later. The police asked me if I had noticed anything unusual. I told them I did notice the dirty dishes were piling up in the sink, but the sex was the same. Hope one of you don't end up with that bed OMG OMG OMG

I've been using one of these mattresses for seven years and we LOVE it. I have had back trouble since I was hit by a car as a teenager, and I love the flexibility of this mattress. If I get sore, I can just adjust the firmness and it gives different pressure points a chance to heal. I endured one pregnancy on a regular mattress, and we purchased this before I was pregnant with my second child and it made a huge difference.

To answer the questions above:

Do you need a matching foundation?
We chose not to purchase one. We just put a piece of plywood over our old box spring and placed the mattress on top. It's imortant to have something firm underneath.

Does it come with the sleep number remotes?
Yep.

Isn't this just a glorified air mattress?
It feels like a luxury mattress, the kids jump on it, you don't have to maintain it if you don't want to (my husband hasn't adjusted his side in a couple of years), but it does come apart and fit into boxes when you move. In fact, the whole thing came delivered in two boxes. Downsides: Over time, the mattress seems to have widened, so it doesn't fit perfectly on our boxspring. We have to center it every week so one of us isn't falling off the side. I consider that a small price to pay for the comfort.

Did someone else do something gross on this demo mattress?
Maybe.

Which is better? 3000 or 5000? Is the only difference the pillow top and does it really make a big difference?
