Mod Edit: This will become the new Northern California Grocery Stores Thread.

Thank you to missusg and mcube for starting up threads for the individual stores for Northern California.

Due to how the timestamp works - it is with apologies to mcube (who started the Lucky thread) that your post is now #141 -- When a thread is merged the posts go in timestamp order.

Please note that there is a 30 day rule for reps -- so any post greater than 30 days old cannot be repped.

This message to remain for the next 24 hours so that our NoCal users can get used to this. Smilie

I don't usually venture into the HD thread, but I'm glad I did today and happened to see this deal. cardstore.com is having a one day sale 10 FREE cards + Free shipping. You can customize photo cards, but they also have cards that don't require a photo!!!

These are better than the last freebies, wonder if they're going to keep doing freebies for awhile...?

There's also this "open letter" to us customers...

An open letter
to our shoppers
As you may know, we are in the midst of the first strike in the history of our 77-year old company. It comes at a time when our business is facing fierce competition in a down economy.

Raley's has been impacted significantly by the recession and the continued expansion of other stores selling groceries. Unfortunately, most of these stores are non-union, with lower operating costs that have made it harder for Raley's, Bel Air and Nob Hill Foods to remain competitive. As a result, our market share has suffered a significant decline. In an effort to stabilize and put us back on a growth path, we have focused on two critical areas: reducing our operating costs and improving the value we deliver our customers.

Here are the facts of our current contract offer we provided to the union:

Industry-leading wages

We are not seeking any reductions to the industry-leading hourly wages we pay to our employees, but we are freezing all increases for two years - just as we've done throughout our entire company.
  • Courtesy clerks will continue to earn between $9.10 to $9.60 per hour
  • Clerks and Senior Clerks will continue to earn between $9.95 to $21.13 per hour
  • Premium pay has been eliminated for Sundays and holidays
Health and welfare benefits
The health and welfare plan proposed to the UFCW union employees is better than the current plan implemented for employees of our corporate office and our non-union stores. We have proposed changing the management of the health and welfare benefits to Raley's. Raley's currently manages more than 30 different healthcare plans for our employees, and through our experience and efficiency, we will be able to realize significant cost savings.

Under our proposed plan, all full-time and part-time employees will receive the following benefits:
  • PPO and HMO Plans
  • Medical coverage to pre-65 retirees (age 65 and above are Medicare eligible)
  • Generous Pension Plan
  • Life Insurance Policy Up to $10,000
  • Dental Plans
  • Vision Plans
  • 401(k)
  • 1-5 Weeks of Paid Vacation*
  • 6-9 Paid Holidays*
  • 9 Days Sick leave**
*Dependent on length of service
** Dependent on health plan and hours worked

Let me be clear, the new health and welfare plan we are proposing is one of the best in the industry. And, while we continue to provide medical coverage to retirees up to the age of 65 years old, we can no longer afford to provide health and welfare coverage to retirees once they qualify for Medicare. Today, less than 15% of employers are providing post-65 retiree benefits, with the number decreasing every year.

How else we are reducing operating costs?
  • Raley's has laid off 153 corporate employees since 2010
  • Raley's has frozen pay increases at the corporate office for the last four years
  • Raley's has not given any bonuses to corporate employees for the last four years
  • Raley's has closed several unprofitable stores while offering most employees jobs at other stores
How else are we improving value?
  • Creating Raley's Dailies, offering everyday low prices on 2,300 of the items you use most
  • Expanding our natural foods selection by as many as 750 items
  • Launching our Something Extra rewards program, focused on adding more value through personalized offers and rewards
  • Improved quality and selection of Raley's private brand items
  • Working with more local families and growers to provide the best produce our area has to offer
Raley's remains fully committed to serving our customers during this labor dispute. There is a lot of attention and confusion about this situation, so I appreciate your taking the time to learn more about Raley's and the decisions we have made to remain a successful family-run business.

Sincerely,
http://www.raleys.com/images/imageslayout/mjt-sig.gif

They are. Depending on how strong you feel about it, Bel Air is NOT on strike and is offering the same deal. You could still get the freebies without "officially" crossing any picket lines if you shop at a Bel Air.
