Office Max changes their ink recycling 05/10/09 (w/ additional policy changes 1/1/10)
It seems like Office Max has changed their ink recycling program yet again.
This weekend I went to a couple of local (South East, FL) stores to return my ink recycling for office max perks credits.
But now the cashiers looked at every ink cart. for it's expiration date. And they would, now only accept if the expiration date was from 2009 or later.
They said ithat their new policy that took effect on 05/10/09th.
They also said if the cart was broken, cracked, or leaking, they would not accept it..
According to the cashiers, Office Max has NOT been receiving full credits from HP, for the ink carts that they sent to HP. So Office Max has cracked down, on what carts they will accept from customer, and then send to HP.
I hope this help others.

I just checked the Maxperks website, and there isn't anything different on there. It has always stated that the cartridges must be visibly undamaged. As far as the expiration date, I don't see any changes. I'd take a printout of the terms and conditions along next time, and ask them where the new stipulation is. I had no problem turning in my 10 yesterday.
I returned 7 yesterday in Boise, Idaho with no questions asked. Some of them were pretty old. However, I couldn't even shop without someone following me trying to sell me anything and everything I was looking for. It was like a used car salesman, but I did get a $219 Executive chair for $100. The ink doesn't go on your account for a couple of weeks she said. HHHMMMMM!
What doesn't make sense to me is, OfficeMax sends them back to HP? I know these cartridges get refilled and sold elsewhere, but it doesn't make sense that HP is the one doing the refilling and not a third-party.
This "new" policy that is mentioned here has been enforced by one of the OM stores that I go to for the last 3 months. They check every single cartridge to see if it is cracked, broken or refilled. However, another location (about 2 miles away from the first one) couldn't care less. They just dump everything without even counting. So, it would be interesting to see if the second OM store starts to enforce the "new" policy or not...
