Thread Details

Just seeing the coinstar thread made me remember that if you go into a Chevy Chase Bank(a local bank that is located only in parts of maryland and dc) they now have free coin counting whether you are a member or not.

you can just walk in and put your coins in the machine. it spits out a reciept and you take it to the attendant.

this probably isnt the hottest of deals especially if you dont live in md or the district of columbia but it is free coin counting that gives you cash

the best parts are that you dont have to be a member, no fees and its cash and not gift cards like the coinstar machine deal going on now.

nothing too special. There is a newer bank in the NYC area called commerce bank. they have MANY branches throughout a few states. They all have a free coin counting service, and you dont even have to be a member of the bank to use the machine.

I heard that ad on the radio last week and took our jars of coins to the CC bank in Reston last weekend. $284.63 was the result. wahoo!

so funny that chevy chase has free counting now.

im a chevy chase customer - i stopped into a branch about 2 years to get some coins counted. one, they didnt have a counting machine. they said that they would "send the coins out" for me, it would take 3 weeks, and there would be a $30 charge. ridiculous! i told them. this was at the branch in cleveland park.

so i went to the branch down on K & 18th - they told me the same thing. I was like 'how can you not have a change counting machine? youre a BANK!" the lady looked at me like i was from another planet.

Interesting trivia:

One gallon of pennies = $53.00. I have verified this twice.

I am originally from the midwest. I recently spent a 4 year stint in CT. I had to take some change to the bank 2 out of the 3 banks didn't even have a counting machine (or at least not one the public could use). Finally, I get to the 3rd bank and they have one in back. They tell me I have to leave my money their and come back later once they count it. I'm thinking, Do I look that stupid? Have lunch on my money will ya Stick Out Tongue.

Anyway, My point. What is it with the EAST COAST and counting change. We have been doing it in the midwest for as long as I've known and I'm nearing 40. I thought EC was supposed to be ahead of the rest in technology and new ideas. Who dropped the ball on this.

So I say, Thumbs Up! on this post. If you can find/get free counting anywhere in the East Coast you should feel blessed.

Anyway, That's how I see it. IMO
