OK, so I called in to DirecTV to see what kind of deal I could get on the HR21 receiver.
The first guy I spoke to played hardball and didn't want to budge off the price of $199 plus $19.99 for shipping. I called right back and got another guy who also didn't want to budge, but was at least nicer than the first guy. They swore up and down that they don't give out that receiver for any less than that, which I know is BS. I asked to be transfered to the Retention Department and I was still offered the receiver at the same price, but this time with a $10 credit for 12 months (I'm already getting a $10 monthly credit) and the HD Extra Pack (which runs at $4.99/month) free for another 3 months (I had already been offered it for free for the past 3 months). So all in all, I was able to get an OK deal for the receiver. Not a great deal, but not bad considering I've only been a DirecTV customer for 6 months. |

I just had my HD reciever installed. Interesting story - I was told the HD rec. would be the latest model the HR21. I was told the regular retail is $299 but I could get it for $99. with 12 months free hd service. After 4 no shows - no calls from the installation dept. it was finally installed. I was told to expect a credit on my bill of $10. per month for one year twice because of the inconvience of the no shows. When this credit did not appear on my bill I was told it would appear on the next billing cycle. It didn't - so I called again and the rep told me he could no find any such thing in the notes. Okay. when they came finally to install the receiver I asked if this was the latest model as I was told the HR21. The installer told me they do not have these in the warehouse but I was receiving the HR20 and a refurbished model at that. I called customer service and I was told there is no guarantee on the make and model you will receive. Furthermore, the majority of receivers that are installed are refurbished. I questioned why would I pay full price for a refurbished unit and I was told these are not purchased units but all units that you pay for are leased units and are to be returned after use. Be careful - what you think you are getting probably isn't what you agreed to or paid for.

I called a few months ago and was able to get the following: - Free HD DVR - $10 off for 12 months - HD package free for 12 months So it is possible to get the HD receivers or DVR for free, but you may have to give up some premium channels or extra receivers to get the HD. |

Not sure if this was already mentioned but if you have been a member for quite some time, mentioning this fact only helps the cause. They were trying to charge me $100 for moving twice within a 6 month period (which was only by a week or so), and when I mentioned the possibility of canceling, the supervisor started by saying that he saw I was a member for over 10 years etc etc, and this seemed to help quite a bit. I wish I had included that info to the first rep i talked to, might have prevented an extra phone call.

Just got off the phone with direct tv. We were only one year into our contract so we had a full year left but here is the deal we got :
1 Free HD DVR (the new one with VOD) 2 HD DVR for $99 (the new one with VOD) 3 HD service free for a year 4 Starz, Showtime, Cinemax, HBO free for 6 months 5 Free install 6 $10 off per month for a year We called and the first person we talked to did not want to give us anything. Got switched to a second person who would not give us anything. Finally got a supervisor the third time around and got the above offer. I thought $99 for two HD DVR's was pretty sweet along with all the other discounts I am a happy camper. Good luck to everyone getting this deal. Chris |

Warning! When any current customers upgrade to HD service, they are automatically signed into a two year agreement. This two year agreement runs from the date of the upgrade. Also new customers that get the HD service are subject to this 2 year agreement with out knowledge and consent to it.
