Note: It looks like it is made by a couple of companies: Fumoto [google.com] (Fumoto Valve [fumotovalve.com] was renamed Quick Oil Drain Valve [quickoildrainvalve.com]) and Fram [google.com] "Suredrain," so check B&M and online retailers for the best price.

Main advantages of these "quick" drain plugs is that they do not require the use of tools after initial installation. Some individuals may prefer them, others may not.

Oil Change Tips
1) Tie a rag around your wrist to keep oil from running down your arm when removing the oil filter.
2) Cut the bottom off of an old and empty 1 qt oil jug and use top part as a funnel. Just save one from one oil change to the next, but make sure you keep the cap on it, or keep it in a gallon ziploc bag to keep all the dirt out of it!
3) Use a china marker (sometimes called grease pencil) to mark wrench size for drain plug and mileage of last oil change on some non-engine part under the hood
4)Use a Sharpie (or the marker above) to write the amount of oil needed. I have it on one of the underhood stickers on all of my cars. No more greasy fingerprints on the owner's manual!
5) Use a Zip Block or any plastic bag, wrap around the oil filter and surroundings before removing it to keep oil from running everywhere. I use the Zip Block and it works great

Testing your old oil to extend oil changes
1) Having your oil tested by places like Blackstone Labs [blackstone-labs.com] is very useful for those looking for feedback (or peace of mind) when extending oil changes beyond owner's manual "recommendations". Free kit, but you must pay for the test. Personally, I have extended my changes beyond 10k miles using Amsoil, and my oil was well within the manufacturer's specifications. Blackstone Labs has oil specification requirements for all engines, and includes those specifications in the reports, in addition to the results of your used oil.
2) Obviously there is no need to do this for every change, only when you wish to extend the oil change. Once you establish a comfortable duration, one would not have to test the oil, assuming driving conditions and change durations are maintained. After some upfront costs, one would save money, in the long run.
