  • About this product:
    • The Aurora smart dimmer keeps Philips Hue smart lights in the "always ready" mode by locking a toggle light switch in the "on/up" position. That way, no one can ever accidentally turn the switch—and your smart bulb functionality - off. With the Aurora dimmer, you can turn smart lights on, off, or dim them, right from the wall, with an app on your smartphone, or even with your voice.

You could Google that, but no it's usually 40, and while it's a simple item, I love mine and was happy to pay 40... It does exactly what it says it will do, and has worked for years without new battery. Fantastic piece of tech
I have a few and one has been abused enough to where I may need to replace it soon. But these are awesome because it makes sure that "those people" who want to use lights the old fashioned way don't mess up your automations.

It's regularly $40 like MysteriousKarma mentioned. I have seven of these up now and have been watching these for a while and can verify that these have only dropped to $30 a few times. Not that $10 is a huge difference but the other rooms I am going to be putting these in aren't used very much, so I was in no rush to buy more. Simple to install and not much that you can do with them other than dim and turn on and off, but it does exactly what I need. Other than putting a blank in place of my light switch (which I don't want to do in case I need to toggle it manually), this was the cleanest solution I can find. I believe there are some 3D print solutions out there, but I'm a simple man lol.

As an aside, Lutron's customer service is excellent. I had an "accident" with one of the switches before I installed one, that the switch physically got damaged. I contacted Lutron on a whim and they sent me a new one no questions asked kindly requesting me to send the damaged one back to them if it wasn't to much of a bother (they did include a return label).

Does this require a hub?
A smart switch is cheaper, will accomplish the same thing for less, look way less janky, and not require a battery. But needs a hub.

Just hard wire the bulb and the switch, so the bulb always has power, and the switch doesn't turn it off. Then use an automation to have the switch control the bulb the way you want.

Can you control these on a timer ? Ex: I want to move it to on position at sunset and off at sunrise ?

The actual switch isn't controlled through the app, but you can power the hue lights that it controls to go on/off at sunset/sunrise through the app. To me, the main benefit of this switch is to prevent someone for turning a light switch which would mess with my automations like sunrise/sunset powering on and off.

Use this with my Hue lights in my office. have a remote that I use with them too. love having full lighting control from my desk. Great device but I'd never pay more than 30 for it. 30 should be reg price.

How many hue bulbs can it control? I have 8 ceiling can lights on one switch.
Answer:
With the Z3-1BRL-WH-L0 you can control up to 12 Philips Hue bulbs in standalone operation, without a system bridge. You can view more information about this control by viewing the spec"

It only changes the brightness when configured with hue, unsure as to other methods but I can confirm you can't in that use case.
