i think the i3 version for $350 is better.

You can take the extra hundred and get a 1TB drive and an extra 8GB of ram

$450: i3 + 16GB + 1TB SSD > $450: i5 + 8GB + 256GB SSD

if you are going low end, you are going low end.. you wont be bottlenecking the i3 over the i5 with the use cases for low end gear..

Am I alone on this?
15.6" diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), micro-edge, anti-glare, 250 nits, 45% NTSC

Looks like it doesn't have power delivery. But has has usb-c

Official specs: https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c08009542
The last HP laptop I bought worked for 18 months, and then started BSOD'ing constantly (20-30 times a day). Windows error log shows it to be a faulty memory module. HP soldered the memory into the laptop so I can't fix it, and their one-year warranty doesn't cover it, so now after 18 months, I have a paperweight.

I don't buy HP products anymore. They design them to be unfixable, and then don't stand behind the product.

I got what I believe is the micro center variant of this last month. Not a bad machine. Build quality and screen aren't the best but performance is solid for the price.

I believe the USB-C does not support displayport and therefore only be able to use the HDMI for external monitor(s)

Am I correct?

Well this one doesn't solder the memory, It sounds like any manufacturer that solders the memory could run into that factor.

What are the options for storage upgrades? Does it only take pci-e ssds or 2.5" ssd or both?

I see that Best Buy has the HP dy-2193dx for $429. These appear to have similar specs. Haven't bought a laptop in a while...is there anything I'm missing about why the Staples model is better? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-1...Id=6479500

The non ips screen is horrendous. If you are used to ips screen, so not buy this, hp use the cheapest of all screens, it almost made me vomit after 30 minutes using this laptop with the non ips screen. It is this bad.

Yeah the screen is shockingly bad but I cant say youll get much better in this price range, also the design of the laptop series is not amazing so it can get hot! I can also feel the sharp plastic edges as this is the low end model. Still cheaper than BF deals but major caveats to consider.

The CPU fan has a rough pitch and can't seem to throttle itself properly. My Ryzen laptop Dell doesn't even turn its fan on until a game is played or heavy application even then the sound pitch is much more subdued. I ended up giving my HP away to a family member with a broken laptop due to weak screen and fan noise.
