Thread Details

So I got my AAA roadside assistance renewal bill for my wife and I and at $120 I thought this is NOT a slick deal. I did some looking around, and USAA offers roadside assitance for about 67 cents/month. I would say saving that $104 for 2 cars for services I have yet to use over 10 years is well worth it.

Includes:
-Towing to the nearest repair facility
-Gas delivery
-Changing tires
-Performing labor where the breakdown took place
-Lost key / lockout assistance

In the interest of keeping people from herniating all over the thread about AAA benefits, the following are AAA benefits, but not USAA:
-Towing up to 100 miles to anywhere
-No charge for the gas delivered
-Travel guides for trips around the world
-Good for YOU (ie, in a friends car, no problem--USAA is good for the car covered by USAA)

For $104/year, I can pay for all the AA benefits with cash if I ever need them.

Happy savings.

I've had USAA for 2 years and I pay $12/year for the towing service. Used the service once when the wife forgot the key in the car at a hotel in some hillbilly town on a long cross country drive.

It's a no brainer if you have USAA.

If you have State Farm you can add it to your policy for $2.50 every 6 months (at least in Utah it is $2.50). They have no limits on how far they will tow you and no deductible, bring you gas, change a tire, unlock your car.

I did it online through USAA. On the main page, clicked on my auto insurance policy, then on the right hand side clicked on view/change coverage. Went to the bottom where the towing/labor was, changed from decline to accept, showed my monthly increase (67 cents per car) and then clicked buy now.

Took 2 minutes.

For many people AA's benefits are priceless. Smilie. The biggest cost is not following the program....

for USAA eligibility, a family member must be or have been in the military. This would include you parents or grandparents...

Also, each tow/service call shows up as insurance claim. This will be visible to any other insurer. However, it shouldn't effect your rates.

Thanks. Not even sure if I have it or not. Will check.

USAA has been top rated for over 20 years.

$6 a year for me, had it on the accord but not the Escape. $12 for both vehicles, not bad.

Covers

Towing & Labor
Towing and Labor is optional. It helps pay for costs such as:

Towing to the nearest repair facility
Gas delivery
Changing tires
Performing labor where the breakdown took place

USAA will tow your car to the nearest facility regardless of distance. AAA will tow your car I think 100 miles to where you want, so if you need to go more, you pay. If you dont' want to go to a repair shop, there is that benefit also.
