Talk about being used!!! Lurking, letting everyone else do the work, then signing up just to get free SD stuff. I know we sometimes do this to OTHER sites...but NOT to SlickDeals!!!

I think a lot of people have lurked for a long time...my DH has looked at this site (and purchased many posted slickdeals = $$$ for this site) as long as I have, but he's never been a member until recently...so I don't think it's fair to say that people are just participating for the prizes...plus if they carve a pumpkin that rocks, they deserve to win.

I respectfully DISAGREE.
If they are lurking...they AREN'T contributing. PERIOD. Then they join just because they get ANOTHER chance to get stuff from SD without even so much as a useful REPLY to a thread. At least the REAL members have enough respect to "give back" to the site that supplys us with such good deals.

Good pumpkins or not...I think there should be a minimum requirement. Wether it be post count or a minimum time spent as a member. Like I said before...if they can't even give a rep...they darn sure shouldn't be able to get so much as a t-shirt before a "REAL" member does.

Lurkers certainly do contribute to this site more than you recognize.

And I agree with the other person, you are taking this way too seriously.

Besides the big prize is decided upon by the mods, not by the popular vote. The person that won last year had very few posts, yet the mods saw it fit for him to win. It was a great pumpkin too.

What some people don't get is for every lurker/new member that clicks on a deal or link, SD gets paid. What do you think keeps this site running? Mr.SD doesn't front the costs himself. Regardless of anything SlickDeals is a business and as long as people are buying, they are helping SlickDeals. IMO

So, I guess if a lurker ever found a great deal that would benefit everyone, INCLUDING SLICKDEALS, (through clicks) and didn't bother to post it due to the fact that THEY AREN'T A MEMBER...

oh hell you don't have to be a lurker to do that...I'm guilty of that one myself and I'm far from a lurker.
