Lots of people are wondering how much actually they saved. I had to to really fight my way to grab one, because they played ignorance as if it does not exist. Even showed me in their webpage that no model is there like this. Some how I got hold of one of their computer. Searched the item. And also saw the inventory.
The price is $372 and they are selling just today for $249. Hence many places dont want to sell them because they will be loosing money, depends on the manager. Let us see how much it will be after 12am today.
This program quickly removes many of the junky trial version software that come with most new laptops. After removing the junk, reboot the machine and download CCleaner and click "tools", then "startup" on the left side. Disable everything there that you don't want running every time you turn the computer on, then exit the program. Next click the start menu and search for defragmenter (type it in search box or look under accessories--system tools) and defrag your hard drive. Afterwards, reboot and defrag again. That should give you a good basic optimization. You should also look under control panel for the display properties and try finding the "appearance/effects" section and disabling some of the unnecessary eye candy. Here is a good guide to disabling effects for a big speed boost: http://www.computingun

Be advised, some Best Buys are holding these units at their Geek Squad desk
They claim to have been 'pre-optimized' for the low low price of $40 tacked on to the price ala a car dealership 'protection package'
Push them and they will waive the charge
HOW to "push" them? what should I say?
Apologies, I didn't mean to lead you to believe what they are doing is actually a valuable service.
Tell them you will not pay for it and that they cannot make you pay for an add on or service you didn't request. They will give it to you at the stated price
Quote :Make Acer eRecovery Discs
How do I make a set of Acer eRecovery Discs for the Aspire One netbook?
Acer eRecovery Discs can be created by using the Acer eRecovery program. An external USB CD or DVD writer is required in order to make the eRecovery Discs.
Follow these steps:
Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged into the Aspire One
Ensure that the external USB CD or DVD write is plugged into the Aspire One and powered on.
Click Start and then All Programs
Click Acer and then Acer eRecovery Management
You may be prompted to enter or create a password. This password will be required to use eRecovery in the future.
In the next window, select Backup.
Insert a blank CD or DVD into the external CD or DVD writer.
Click on Create Factory Default Disc and then click Start.
Quote :Reinstall Windows Home Premium 64 bit
You can find a downloadable copy of windows 7 on post 1122, burn it to a disk and put it in, i had to switch my boot order, but you might not have to. when it come up pick clean install not upgrade, and when it asks where to install, you will want to delete partitions on the drive and reformat, then it will walk you right thru the rest. i had to call microsoft to reactivate, but it was an automated system and it took 5 minutes. Mine worked fine with out installing any drivers, but i went to acer and installed the audio and video drivers.
And i had to install the touchpad driver to get the scroll feature to work again.

NOTE TO CELERON BASHERS
the celeron in this laptop, the "celeron 900" is not the old celerons people think about, it's of the 45nm core architecture and performs better then pentium 3's, pentium 4's, Intel Atoms, and such. Intel could stand to change their naming scheme, but that doesn't change the fact that these are nothing like the Celerons of old. These are on-par with the dual cores being offered on black friday 1-2 years ago... so for $250 it's not bad at all.
TO ANYONE WHO DIDNT GET ONE YESTERDAY], I believe this deal should still be good for today if it is in stock at your local store and it should be since these BB employees are hiding them and not selling it to anybody unless you put up a fight and get a manager. The site still has it listed at $249.99 and the cnet article states that they are available at this price while supplies last so people should be able to get it today.
the acer is extremely easy just pull off the large panel on the bottom (it has like 5 or 6 screws holding it on)
then remove 2 screws from the fan and slide it out of the way
then the 5 screws holding the heatpipe over the cpu and northbridge, and move it off
then release the cpu from the socket by turning what looks like the slotted screw head next to it (make sure you turn it all teh way. it will click when you get the last little bit
then swap cpu's and put it back together
From the CNET article...
"Best Buy said it will start selling on Wednesday the $249 Acer laptop--the retailer's lowest-advertised-price laptop ever. The laptop comes with an Intel Celeron processor, 15.4-inch screen, 2GB memory, a 160GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Premium. The model is available while supplies last. "
