The only real problem was the lack of a scrolling touchpad. This is the laptop tigerdirect sold for $400 on win7 opener. This was a decent deal on the opener and is a better deal now. If you want a good laptop at netbook prices this is it. I do plan on grabbing one of these.

Nvidia 8200M-G is pretty much equal in power to intel's x4500. In gaming the 8200 edges the intel, in raw power benchmarks the intel edges the 8200. You aren't buying this for its gaming power anyway Smilie
Do you know if Nvidia 8200M-G also accerlates 1080P contents? Intel does. Since this has HDMI, it makes sense to be able to smoothly play back any 1080P content. I'm guessing that the processor + the video should be fast enough to play back 1080P MKV movies?

i bought the acer from best buy, should i be feeling buyers remorse about now? i'm not very good with laptop technicalities.

I got the Best Buy Acer 5230 too after driving to 3 stores but I didn't open it coz I wanted to see if anyone could beat that deal.

YES, take it back and accept your 15% restocking fee punishment. At least you woud get more ram, dual core, 10 key, Xpress slot, and HDMI out.

I successfully returned a laptop bought online w/o getting hit for the 15% restock fee just yesterday. Some stores don't have one. I also got my shipping back. YMMV

The MSI laptop sold by Office depot 2 weeks back for $450 had great features too. But, MSI did a poor job configuring the hardware and the drivers. That's where HP/ Dell/ Lenovo beat the small guys like Acer and MSI.
acer is the #2 computer manufacturer worldwide (behind hp), #1 in notebooks. hardly what you'd call "small"

I currently have DV4-1225DX. I checked the PassMark CPU list and noticed that this T3000 benchmarked better than the Turion X2 RM-72 that I have in my laptop. It even scores better than my other laptop's Core 2 Duo T5800?? Will this run as hot as my AMD does and would it work for all HD needs? I don't play any modern games. Thanks!

Does this slab have a modem port? From looking at the reviews I could find, I dont see or hear mention of one.

My niece wants a laptop for xmas, but she lives out in the sticks. 70% of the time she'll have wireless access but the rest of the time she's at grandma's house and has only dial up access.

So no modem wont fly.
You could get the 50K modem for usb port, they have some on Amazon. That's what I have for when we have to use the dial up connection for our laptop.

i know people were telling that acer processor can be changed in 5 to 10 minutes and that chipset supports core 2 processor. Can anyone comment if we can upgrade this processor also to core 2 duo and is it easy to replace the processor.??? please need more input

To me it looks like a much better deal then the BB's $250 Acer. Will this be avialable online? OD closed all the stores near me
yup, me too. those bastards closed the only store in NH. Hope the deal is online as the OP implies, but someone posted it will be B&M only.

I think this msi will actually have better chance of support for the new c2d chips in its bios... On that note however, we still dont know what this NB chipset for this laptop is, so its all really just speculation right now

the t3000 is the new generation 45nm chip... the t5800 is an older 65nm chip...

Curious what you think?

I can buy a "like new" used MSI A6000-029US in this thread
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1633178
for $425, maybe $400.

vs. the one in this thread for $320 + $27 tax = $347

The used one is hardly used (less than two weeks old), has receipt, warranty registered already though w/orig. purchaser who is an acquaintance.

Which would you get? Why? Pitfalls - especially buying the "used" one?
