I've been looking at the Vortex Diamondback 8x42 which is 239 but sometimes on sale for 200ish. Is this worth the price difference? I think these are usually around $550 so 299 seems kinda crazy.

when it comes to optics, it really makes a difference in general. i have tried ones from 3k to $30 and while there are steals to be had (mostly, very rare, discontinued models, if u're willing to look for 6 month), when it comes to optics everyone has their own threshold.
so, if your q is are they better, then simple answer is yes

I appreciate your reply. After a lot of research I can see that they are noticeably better.
Ahh my bad, I read a review that said they only came with a storage case but not the glasspak case or anything else. Editing my original post. BUT I'd still go with the FocusCamera version for the improvements to the binoculars + I think only their version comes with the harness on the glasspak.
Cabela's $299 offer is not the V201's (last gen) not as good FOV or clarity. They also offer the current version for a lot more on the site which can be confusing for some.

Also in photography (retired) and now hunting, optics can make the difference. One seasoned guide/hunter described it to me as the ability to discern colors when glassing for animals. That difference being the color between antlers and twigs are close and lower quality glass caused the colors to blur together essentially missing the animal. His conclusion was buy $5k bino's but I've got to expect a diminishing rate of return when you go from $100 to $500 or to $1000 bino's. Personal experience is the viper HD range finder was much clearer in low light situations than the diamondback or crossfire range finders I tried, it certainly made a difference!

They don't list the hat or the phone mount at that price however.

The $350 deal is definitely the better optic.
