I can see the outcry that will esnue from this disaster!
It's always sad to hear when a grant funded mag goes down.As for GIANT - hey, I preciedt that one was gonna go down last year in the Magazine Dead pool. it hasn't yet but I bet it will soon. That and Hollywood Life. I'm gonna try and see wots up w/Radar. My hubby really liked that. I'll investigate and report back to the class. Mythbusting Thread : The Truth about Freebizmags!http://www.slickdeals.
Should I post this mag offer Test: 1. If deal requires you to have to write cancel on an invoice or risk getting sent to collections - it is not free and shouldn't be posted so DO NOT POST 2. If deal is for a sponsored sub, you sign up on the form, you get the sub for free and never have to write cancel on nothing - POST THE OFFER I miss ISIS (Chana) RIP |

Shop Etc and Weekend next goners
I just spotted this on mediabistro. "Unfortunately, because the performance metrics we set for new magazines were not achieved, and because of the challenging economy, tough newsstand environment, and rising paper and postal costs, two magazines will be discontinued: SHOP Etc. (after its October issue) and Weekend (after its September issue)." http://www.mediabistro I wonder if/what we'll get to replace them? I'm bummed, I had ShopEtc thru next October, and had signed up for Weekend thru the free Chase offer, and hadn't gotten the first issue yet... |

Vodreaux :
1. many people who do freebies have a false sense of entitlement. These are the same folks who when you post a really great deal for a free $25 item will say 'yeah but the shipping's not free" . They are also the same people who will order freebies intended only for DNA splicers, Cancer-ridden patients with months to live and so on. Someday when they need a certain freebie intended only for them and their interest group, here's hoping other greedy rasturds took them all. 2. Other people are genuine readers who enjoy their free magazines very much and are sad to see a good one go 3. Some people understand that the publishers were PAID for our free subs by a sponsor such as Computer associates, Spectra, My Points, veteran's Advantage or others and just want to receive what that sponsor paid for. the magazine already got to fib to advertisers about its increased circulation and pocket higher rates for ads because of us and our sponsored subs so the least these folks feel they can do is sell their subscriber burden to a decent competing publication and re-assign our sponsored subs in an orderly fashion. On some days I am person number 2 and on others I am person number 3!

Personally, If I like the magazine and I can't get for free. I buy it for lowest price possible.
Otherwise, I subscribe for free one I don't read and give it away. I also subscribe it for my local library. My local library get FHM, Blender, Spin, Maxim, and Stuff too. One of the librarian told since they receiving the magazine, they got increase of patronage including increase in book borrowing. After 3 months, the library allows all magazines available to lend to patrons. They even making money from the magazines from late returns 25 cents a day to $4.00 for lost magazines. |
