Too many front page deals
A suggestion - cut down on the huge number of front page deals and only post the truly exceptional ones, like it used to be done back then.

its been posted before both in the lounge, and here. quick summary:
things are fp'd after community reaction. they're the ones that really drive what gets on there or not. the amount on the fp is reflective to the amount of deals posted. as the site grows the amount that get fp'd grow. we've made things to make it a little easier to follow the deals on there (ie new deals since last visited/ the fire icon for really hot deals). if you have additional ideas we're always happy to listen "This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole.
"A doctor passes by and the guy shouts 'Hey you. Can you help me?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole. "Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up. The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole. "Then a friend walks by. The friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.' The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out.'" |

How about increasing the thumbs-up threshold in order to get on the front page? Or only front paging the top X deals of the day. That way when people come on the main site, they won't see a huge wall of text. People looking for deals always go on the forums anyways so there's really no need to put all the decent/good deals on the main page.

we can't satisfy everyone. And as arj said, as the number of people grow on this site, so too does the number of FP deals, especially around the holidays. Most people appreciate the increased number of deals, because contrary to belief, many guests just go to the home (front) page and not the forums. Deals around this time are so short-lived anyway so it's important to have a variety of deals to make up for the expired ones. And the community decides the hotness of the deals, not us, and from what I can see just clicking on the first few FP deals, the first deal is as good as the next, so it's not like the quality of deals has degraded just because we have been posting more of them.
Money is the root of all evil, and Slickdeals is the root of all my money

![]() I understand the other side of the argument. I would like to see/filter by only-- is this possible? If not, how hard would it be to implement? That is, have a button that will show only the extra hot FP deals. Or how about deal alerts by ?!?! ![]() Admins? Web Developers?
