For clean install of retail copy of Win7 HP. Here's a list of drivers that you should get:
To activate a retail copy with the OEM key, you have to follow directions for a phone activation
Bare minimum:
1. Latest Intel Graphics drivers from "Intel Driver Update Utility"
2. Broadcom Gigabit ethernet drivers from Gateway support
3. Intel iAMT driver from gateway support
4. Gateway Launch Manager (for the touch sensitive keys and onscreen display) from gateway support
5. PowerDVD8 from the recovery apps disc (for Blu-ray playback required)
Optional (recommended):
1. ALPs trackpad driver from gateway support
2. Intel Chipset driver from Gateway support
Do NOT:
1. Install the Realtek HD Audio driver. (Will enable the AC adapter beep) *FIXED WITH NEWEST DRIVER

For those who have Sony HDTV, either LCD or LED... follow this step to make sure your laptop display the correct resolution. I found this out by paying d@mn gateway Answers $60 but I had to semi help the guy as well!!!!
1. Have the HDMI cable plug into the laptop.
2. You will hear the noise of like when you plug in the usb flash drive if this is your first time connecting. If second time you will not hear anything. If everything goes well you will get a display on your tv as well as the laptop! If not the TV will say unsupported signal while the laptop screen still shows pictures. To fix that follow to step 3 below.
3. Right click on the desktop and go to where you set the resolution of your laptop display. Look at the third drop down box and chose Extend Display. Hit apply. Then chose Detect. You should see three screen in the box. Make sure you have three screen in the box, two will not work for some reason, you have to see three screens on there. Then click on identify and your TV will be detected, should be detected as screen 2. Hit apply.
4. Go into the intel graphics hd control panel in multiple display, chose the resolution of 1920x1080 and your laptop will switch over automatically to your tv. Everytime you plug into the HDMI cable, it will automatically switch over for you, and revert back to your laptop screen once the HDMI cable is unplugged! This method works also if you are connecting a hdmi to your laptop through a Home Theater Receiver. The problem with this is the sound still plays out from the laptop as I have not figured out how to make my receiver plays the sound from the hdmi cable
If anyone have any idea on how to do this PLEASE PLEASE add this to the wiki board so I won't have to spend another $60 or someone else! Thank you and enjoy....

Gateway's seem to have sub par build quality and aren't the most pleasing to use. The mouse buttons on the laptop are the most horrible I have seen. They aren't very user friendly
Other than that I really don't see where this laptop is lacking. Sure its a gateway,but what are you going to do. $499 for this laptop is crazy considering most new i3's are more than that. In Soviet Russia, Internet surfs you!

And I used it last night for a while and have no serious objections to it. It seems like a great rig for the price. I just bought a Qosmio as a DT replacement but need one that's not a netbook and that I can carry around from time to time (no chance of that with the Toshiba beast). I'm going to run the Intel Turbo Boost monitor tonight and make sure that the i5 is fully functioning and not disabled to match i3 specs. It'll be cool to see in the next week or two what the comments are and what people find out about this after it officially hits the streets via BB. |

I'm curious if anyone has checked to see if we can install a bluetooth module in the bottom panel... The laptop obviously supports it (from checking the front panel), just curious if there is an open slot for a module. I'll check later tonight if nobody has answered by then.
Otherwise, I like the laptop quite a bit. The keyboard is firm and doesn't flex as many other models seem to and I like that it isnt the chicklet style keyboard. Can't complain about a $499 laptop with blueray player and i5 processor

Could someone upload the drivers for the devices or to me personally? In my haste I did not save these before i installed Win7 Ultimate over the home version on the laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

So what's the easiest way to add an E-Sata port to this? That's the only thing stopping me from returning it. I have 2 External 2TB Hard Drives, and running them on USB will be really slow!

To add to the question above, does anyone know if I can install a firewire card/connection to the laptop? I do some video editing and I really need a firewire connection to connect my camera.
Any help in this matter would be great because there is a best buy 10 minutes from me that apparently has these laptops! Thanks in advance. |

Many of the drivers on this laptop are quite old. So to get the best performance go to the Gateway website, enter the serial number - and all your drivers should be listed.
