Thread Details

(At one time this thread was rated -5 only because of trashing by SD members which was subsequently cleaned up by moderator. See post #10)

Ryobi router table Model A25RT07, UPC 033287140992, Item 933016, for easy shelf ID the box boldly reads 392 sq inch working surface. Rang up as a penny.

updated title 3/21/10 to include more than just one cent items as some have taken liberty to post general finds, which is fine.

Home Depot employee. This is stupid because it happens so rarely. You could walk into any Home Depot and there will be a handful of penny items, but more often they're really, really stupid things that aren't worth a penny. They go to a penny because no one will buy them at $1, $5, $10.

Great penny items that remain on the sales floor are obviously due to a mistake. Don't go into a Home Depot expecting to find great stuff like this. It's 1 in a million. Good luck. Thumbs down because 99.9% of you won't find anything.

Does anyone know a way to find the BOD of a clearance item if you can't find the tag, but know it is on clearance?
Maybe on the in-store PC somehow?

Also, I SHOULD know this, but for some reason don't recall.... At what point after the BOD does the item hit the .03 price?

Thanks to all and any

No customer computers in my area, but looking over CSR's shoulder on the AS400 system I've never seen the BOD on screen, though it's possible the data is accessible. Perhaps the PC is different.

5 months, 1 week (the .06 and .03 levels do not include the 8+/- day gap that penny does)

I have never seen BOD on any computer that was accessible. I have had managers look up price history in order to get the last clearance price on penny items so I know they have access. But in the cases where it has happened they step into the manager's area behind the service desk to do it.

Bamboo 8" 2HDL Bath Faucet - SKU 570697 - this is finally 1 cent now fwiw. This was my _first_
find thanks to this board. However the guy wouldnt let me have the box. Never ask middle age men
to get the box down - I guess its either only young kids or get the ladder from another isle yourself
and get it down. Otherwise they scan it and say they cant sell it.

This one is still holding at $38.03 at a few stores in my area. Whereas in the past I saw most stores in my area all change their clearance prices on the same day, now it seems like the date when an item drops to a penny is more staggered than it has been in the past. Wonder if it has anything to do with all the various American Standard faucets that went out the doors for $0.01 a few weeks ago with the 1/10/12 BOD. Maybe they're doing a more manual price drop on whatever date they can physically pull the merchandise from the shelves?

Oh, and the best way to get the item down without having them scan it is to use your social engineering skills. For example, request a different (decoy) item that's nearby the one you really want. If the associate scans the decoy then don't alert him to your real target item and wait for another attempt with a different associate. If he doesn't bother to scan the decoy item, then politely ask if he can also bring down the real item so you can look at both items before deciding which one you want. Also, never ever ask an associate that already has his handheld computer out in his hand.

Thats perfect Jada thank you. And you even gave me a third idea. Even if he scans the decoy, just wait for him to leave. More than likely the ladder will be left in the area allowing me to do a quick up and down the ladder to get the real item.

Found the LG front load washing machine 113226 today on clearance for 324.00 with 20% off clearance.Every store showed OOS. Even this one. Found it in the rafters, brand new in the box. Could not find the matching dryer 113964. Chicagoland area. Does anyone have a store within 100 miles of Chicago that has the dryer.
Would really like to find it before it drops to a penny.

Is there a way to ring up heavy items at the self checkout? Like manually entering the store sku?

Some areas are lucky enough to have hand scanners at the SCO

If not by you, then your best bet is to get a bunch of other, high priced, smaller items stack them all on a wagon with the large item, go to a cashier (the younger the better) and try to get them to scan them on the wagon with their hand scanner.....sometimes they never notice that one item rang up for a a penny, unless the total looks very low...hench the additional high priced items.
On your next visit to a HD, return the high priced items.

This has worked for me as long as their is a upc code I've gotten away with buying two penny water heaters. Pull the up code off the item and scan it at the sco. Then pay quickly. Won't work when the store isn't packed.

Do the same for really heavy items. But my first choice is to put the item on top of normal cart if possible and then do a quick push and pull for scanning at sco. Worked perfectly with many items including very big grill (boxed), toilet bowls, cabinets etc.
