(At one time this thread was rated -5 only because of trashing by SD members which was subsequently cleaned up by moderator. See post #10)

Ryobi router table Model A25RT07, UPC 033287140992, Item 933016, for easy shelf ID the box boldly reads 392 sq inch working surface. Rang up as a penny.

updated title 3/21/10 to include more than just one cent items as some have taken liberty to post general finds, which is fine.

thread closed due to age and lack of regular activity. please continue discussion in the new thread here: http://slickdeals.net/f/7735565-dedicated-thread-home-depot-b-m-ymmv-clearances-xx-06-xx-03-1-cent-deals-and-other-significant-discounts?v=1

GENERAL ADVICE:

BOD: Born on Date, the date listed on most (not all) yellow clearance tags, and is what the 6 month + 6 day clearance cycle is based on. Can be any combination of month/date/year or year/day/month or date/month/year.
SKU: Stock Keeping Unit, this is the store item number, normally 6 digits (xxx-xxx)

Old style tag:
1) Look for yellow or red clearance tags.
2) Look at the date on the tags:
...........Dates < 3 months = price on the tag was usually still current
...........Dates > 3 months = price had usually dropped a bit more
...........Dates > than 6 months = YMMV <--Where people are finding penny bargains Dates > 8 Months are what you are looking for
3) Get a few other items that you need; think of them as fillers! This is to help you avoid unwarranted scrutiny
4) Go to self-checkout, MUTE THE REGISTER! Check prices if need be; you can roll the dice and just scan, return later if a price comes up that is too steep for your wallet. Most registers do not read out the price, so muting may not be necessary.
5) Scan - SCAN ORIGINAL BARCODE NOT THE YELLOW/RED TAG
6) Pay
7) Leave
8) Go home, scan your receipt, allow us to bask in your SD glory!

New style tag (not yet able to be tested but from a HD employee):
Home Depot has changed its clearance reduction policy. It now goes this way:
A clearance item will end in .06 when it has 6 weeks left until going to a penny. This indicates to the employee that they have 6 weeks to sell through.
A clearance item will end in .03 when it has 3 weeks left until going to a penny.
This is new and won't be indicated on older tags, just those printed recently.

HOW TO CHECK STORE INVENTORY AND PRICES FROM IN-STORE COMPUTERS:

Most Home Depot stores have a computer in the front of the store by customer service. This is to allow customers to look up items on the site and try to find in the store or something. You can also use this computer to check local inventory and prices. This is AWESOME when trying to find $0.01 items. Most clerks will say they are out of them once they come up at $0.01, so you can't trust them. If you see them in stock at your store it then becomes a task trying to find them. As noted in most threads, these items will not be marked as $0.01 and will show as something much greater.

1) Find computer in the store. Most departments have their own computers, but a clerk will give you a hard time if they find you using them. All of the stores in my area have a computer by customer service specifically for customers. This means no one will bug you when running through lists of items.
2) Click on the start menu to bring up a list of applications.
3) Choose the "Price Check" application
4) Enter the special 6 digit Home Depot SKU's in the appropriate box and hit Enter.
5) The next screen will display the local price and quantities for 5-10 stores in your area.
6) Head to that department and try to find your treasure!!!

If your store has a barebones computer (or dumbed down kiosk) that only has an internet browser (and the computer is hooked into the HD Store Network) type in:
h t t p://isp.stXXXX.homedepot.com/com/homedepot/mm/sv/inq/en_US/PriceCheckTool.html

The address is case sensitive, and you can replace the XXXX with the store number you want to set as local. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on a cell or tablet that is simply connected to HD's WiFi.

This also works well compared to bringing things up to the self checkout for price checking. I always get mobbed when I try to bring a group of items up for checking. Then if I find something that rings up for a $0.01 I have to still cancel the transaction and come back later to try to sneak through. Enjoy!

Previous deals deleted. If needed please check "revisions" in wiki

How to check store inventory from your home browser:
Replace 1st set of x's with SKU, 2nd set with store number. Sometimes I find the checker doesn't work if you do not have home depot's site open in another tab, if you still get an error browse for a bit on HD's site until it works.

h t t p://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202184305/h_d2/BopisOverLay?R=202184305&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&storeSkuNum=xxxxxx&locStoreNum=x xxx

Another inventory checker. Change store #.
You may have to open HD website in another tab for it to work.

dewalt 18v nicad drill dc759ka now 1 cent.
I only found it thanks to the orangle shirts rearranging the tool dept. No hilti stuff at .03 level though. I think the hilti reps had been there recently. Saw other hilti stuff that had some 20-30% markdown.

Site88 AND HD website still showing ZERO in stock for any item I check. Even everyday, non penny items.
Has anyone figured this one out yet?

Been a while since I penny shopped... is it 6 months exactly from the Born On Date that the items drop to $0.01?

I saw some items marked 05/10/12, which is why Im asking.

I just discovered this thread and i must say it's pretty awesome.

I read through the wiki and through about 35 of the newest pages. I have a couple questions. 1. if an item is priced xx.00 is there a way to predict when it will go down to a penny? 2. I found that a store about 30-40 min away has the "924164 -- 03/27/12 -- Savannah Slate Top fire pit" that some have reported as being a penny. According to site88 the store has 4 left in stock. What are the chances that this item is actually a penny or atleast under $10. I'm afraid to call and ask the store in fear that if it is they will take it off the shelf. this same store also has the Hoover WindTunnel Max Multi-Cyclonic Upright Vacuum Cleaners model # UH70600 (SKU 835163) in stock with 4 as well. I guess what i'm asking is it worth the time and gas, since i don't know for sure the price they have it at? appreciate any and all advice.

I would have never thought about deals like this at home depot. To be honest I've been inside a home depot at least 10 times the last few weeks but that was only because i had the zombie coupons. Before the coupons it was pretty rare for me to step foot into one, but now i have another excuse. Smilie. i'll try my best to contribute. Thanks to all who are posting these great deals

If you call, they will be gone. I always like to check the inventory checker by bringing it up on my phone at times to see if it has the same results as my computer. If they are there, those fire pits are heavy and kinda awkward to pick up. Bring a friend, it will help at SCO. Good luck.

Do not carry to sco when you find inside the item call the store with the upc code and ask for the price. This way you know if it hit a penny you can go string to the self check out. Next step is do not carry the item to sco carry just the upc code and then scan the items upc code. Once purchased go back and retrieve your recently purchased item. This works for big items that would bring the sco cashier directly to you and stop the transaction.

848755 BOD 4/30/12 Commercial Electric LED recessed lights are now a penny. Box says "All Pro LED" in big letters.

My store shows there in 5 in stock. But I can't find any. I've checked the aisle and the clearance bin but they are not there. Even on the very top racks. I don't even see the sticker for the item. What section did you find these lights in? Were they on the aisles or hidden somewher?

What in the world are you talking about?????Are you serious??? Your actually
advising tearing off a upc, scanning it, paying for a piece of cardboard, going back for the item and walking out the store.. This is a joke right????

No if you can't move it ask for help after you pay for it. I've done this before with waterheaters and large appliances during blackfriday. I never said just walk out the front door lol that will 100% get you stoped lol. But if you already paid for it and didn't do anything stupid like switch upc codes and crap like thatall your doing is taking the tag up to the sco and paying for it.

It has worked for me... I have major back problems and have had 3 surgeries in the past year so I just use the excuse I can't lift the item if it's big and pay for it up front. Hell if there's no upc no one else can buy it while you go pay for the large item.

Tho I do not recommend doing this for small items that would be plain stupid just bring the small items up to the sco with penny in hand and ring it up and pay in a flash.

To ensure your ingenuity isn't going to be mistaken for larceny its best you learn how to use the Pro Desk for your price checks (pretty easy and no on is going to bother you). Just takes an ounce of courage to walk up there for the first time but once you do you will wonder what took you so long to do it in the first place.

My store appears to be pricing a majority of the items to the xx.00 system instead of the xx.06/xx.03 system. When checking for some items listed on here such as the husky wrenches, faucets, and husky worklight, the items are ringing up at full price, but are not even showing up on the price check utility at the HD store. I did manage to get a couple of the Ridgid workbench units priced at 34.03, but the price tag looked normal and was white, not yellow like clearance items. Something is going on here.
stores around my area seem to the doing the same thing. i'm new to the whole 'penny finds' following and haven't ever actually come across one/scanned or bought any at the store, but i've definitely noticed that the clearance prices at the 4 stores around me are rounded to the dollar rather than the .03/.06, etc.

also seems like every single thing i look for on the inventory checker comes up as 'Out of stock'. i mean literally every sku i enter says 'Out of Stock'. seems odd based on most posts where people are finding things using the stock checker.

I went to home depot today to try my luck at finding some penny items. No luck but i did find the computer that was mentioned in the wiki and was able to look up prices and inventory of other things i added to my list of things to look for. Most of the items i put in came back as not found, but i was able to confirm that the robyi backpack leaf blower is a penny as well as a hoover vaccuum. Of course they weren't at stock at the store i was at but i'll be visiting the stores that did have those in stock very soon. The robyi (sorry i know that may not be how it's spelled) 3 piece kit was still regular price at all stores around me. That computer saved me a trip, i won't be going to the store i mentioned that was 30-40 min away since i now know that the fire place is still regular price.

I took some pics of things with clearance tags as i was searching for things to use my $50 off $100 coupon on. I didn't find anything major, just a bunch of random stuff but i'll post them later.

I get what your saying. Just haven't had luck once I found a penny item getting the large item to the sco without some HD employee scanning the dam thing...

Anyways here's some more clearance items to add to the list.
