Chase Freedom has quarterly rotating categories at 5%, but gas was in two of them this year (and may show up next year) AMEX Blue Cash Preferred offers 3%, but has an annual fee. Blue Cash Everyday is the free version, but offers 2% on gas. That being said, with no credit card you might have trouble getting approved for any of these cards unless your credit score benefits from a good mix of other types of credit (car loans, student loans, mortgages, etc.) that have aged well with no missed payments. |

Hi,
My chase sapphire preferred is going away, and I'm looking for a new card with good cashback on restaurants, groceries, and travel. (or 2 I suppose) Here are my main spending cats: #1 = restaurants & bars, #2 = groceries , #3 = flights & hotels #4 = gas - barely worth mentioning - I don't drive much. I have a chase freedom card that does 5% back on categories, but it changes quarterly. I'm looking for something more consistent for my everyday spend on restaurants, bars, and groceries. Possibly flights & hotels if possible, but I'm hesitant to open up too many credit lines. Other various notes: - signup bonus would be great, but not necessary. I'd really like to try to find a card I can keep open for a long time - Prefer no annual fee for the same reason as above (don't want to cancel again in a year) - I don't care about APR/etc - I pay off entirely every month - For travel cards, one with no foreign transaction fee would be great, but I have a schwab debit card I can use if necessary Any favorites? Hello!
Hi FolksFirst time poster here. Just wanted to say SD is an awesome website and you guys are very helpful! I am a Canadian resident who frequently shops in the US. I was looking for a credit card. My main purchases are done online (mostly electronics/technology and maybe some clothes) and gas whenever I visit US. So basically, I don't need any rewards on grocery or day-to-day things etc. I have a chequing account with Bank of America and excellent credit back in Canada. Wondering if you could suggest something for me. I am a big fan of cashback so something with that would be even sweeter. Cheers

I could use suggestions on a good card as well
![]() - Needs to be Visa signature card (already have MC/discover) - No annual fee - Don't care about APR (I pay off end of month) - No foreign transaction fees would be good (not a must though) Discover gives me the quarterly 5% cashback categories and I'm ok with those. Just looking for one for all other daily use. I am looking at
(I looked at chase sapphire preferred, but looks like it has annual fees after first year) P.S. I have well established credit history (I don't foresee any problems qualifying) Edit: read http://slickdeals.net/f/3653146-A...icy-Unfair - wonder if that is still the case Last edited by jj14; 08-13-2012 at 01:50 PM.. |

Hi,
I need some advice on credit cards. I currently do not worry about credit card rewards. I basically just have my Alaska Air visa and do all transactions on that. Its useful for the companion fare and the miles as I pretty much only fly on Alaska Air (I live in Alaska so it is most convenient and cheapest for the most part). I am starting to see the errors in my ways. I think a great way I could significantly increase my benefits is by going with Chase Freedom and Chase Sapphire Preferred. I have a pretty high credit score (was over 800 before some hard inqs lately). With the chase cards I could accumulate UltimateReward points convert those to BA avios and then use the avios for partner travel on Alaska Air. Currently, one route I fly frequently, ANC to OTZ costs 15k RT miles on alaska. Using avios the flight is only 9k miles RT. This is a $600 ticket paid with cash, so the way I see it each avios point is worth 6.7cents. Are there any other cards programs that I should consider signing up for? Am I looking at this wrong? |

I'm trying to find more info about this Avios plan - my sister lives in Juneau and is in much the same boat as you. Any helpful links? Thanks, |

http://www.britishairways.com/tra...blic/en_gb http://www.britishairways.com/tra...lculatePod for instance I took a look at a RT ticket from Juneau to Seattle and would only cost 15,000 avios compared to a minimum 25k alaska air miles. |

Right now, I have 3 credit cards, and 2 debit. I have one from BoA, one from Chase, and one with Citi. I don't really have a clue about what rewards I'm getting, if any, and I'd like to change that. I'd like 1, MAYBE 2 credit cards that I use and get rewards from - not 3. Can it hurt my credit score by canceling them all in a row? Any advice?

Advice: find a card that offers rewards/signup bonus that you like and apply for it. If you get it, use it. Either forget your old cards exist, or if you really want to max your score, use them once a month, just so the balance is nonzero. That will raise your score vs. a zero balance. (NOTE that I'm talking about your reported high balance. I'm NOT saying you should CARRY a balance - you definitely should not. Pay off all cards every month!). |

I work as a contractor for an IT company. My work is being delayed and I don't have the money to pay my bill in full this month. I have a balance on a Discover card and I just opened a Citi Forward card and was approved a week ago.
I have never missed paying off a balance in full and I would like that to continue. I was thinking about doing a balance transfer onto the Citi so the bill wouldn't be due until my first payment date, October 28th. By then I will have the money, but I was wondering: is there anyway this balance transfer could negatively impact my credit score? Also, the only fee would be Citi's 3% balance transfer fee, right? I think I'm in an introductory 0% APR period, but I d be able to pay it off before my first statement is due, 10/28, anyways. The reason my first statement isn't due until 10/28 is that I opened the account at the end of August they set statement close dates for the 10th of each month, I called in and changed it to the 28h to correspond with my other bills. Also, could the balance transfer cover the $650 in purchases?
