Look into the Chase UR business cards like Ink Plus & Ink Bold, also the United MileagePlus Explorer card. |

Just wanted to let people here know that I applied for a Chase Freedom card and was approved instantly. My only credit history is being an authorized user on my dad's Discover.
BoA CashRewards declined me with reason "authorized user does not mean anything to us since you are not responsible for the account" and told me to build credit and apply again later. |

I'm hoping some of you credit card gurus could give me some advice. I apologize for not reading through the thread. I saw list of cards on the front with the balance transfer.
My Gf other has a credit card which she doesn't use anymore but she racked up a bit of debt on. She pays the monthly bill every month but unfortunately she is just paying off the interest on her debt and not making any real progress in paying off the card since it has a high APR. Does anyone no what would be a good card for her to switch over her debt so she can actually start getting this paid off? Should she use one of the cards listed on the first page with the balance transfers and if so which would be one of the better ones to use? Thanks |

After getting a secured CC with BoA, the first non-secured CC that I got was also the Chase Freedom. I think it's an excellent card because it has NO annual fee, has amazing 5% cashback rotating categories and gives you an "in" with Chase in the long run...provided you don't mess up. On the other hand, getting a secured credit card with BoA is a good way to get an "in" with BoA. I had the secured card for 7 months before getting a call from BoA asking me if I was interested in a unsecured CC. Good Luck. Be responsible with your credit and you'll have a LOT of doors open to you in the long run. Rep unto others as you would have them Rep unto you.

I recently graduated and got a job, and I'm looking for a new credit card. I've had a Citi Forward card for almost 3 years now with a credit limit of $2,900. I use between $1000-$2000 per month and have always paid the balance on time, so I would say my credit score is very healthy. The problem is, I find myself very close to the $2,900 limit nowadays and I need another card for emergencies mostly. At the end of the month I sometimes have less than $100-200 in credit available.
Any recommendations for a card that currently has the best sign up bonus? Requirements and fees are not an issue for me, I literally want the best sign up bonus that's being offered and reward system. I'm thinking of making the new card my main one and having the Citi as a backup since my credit score on there is already good with a decent limit. A few things to note is that I do not want a card that offers bonuses for travel. My dad works for the airlines so I never have to worry about flight/hotel. Also I primarily use my card for shopping, eating, and gas. That's about it. Also, how much should I have in my checkings account before applying for a credit card? And do my chances of being accepted go down if I don't have a savings account? If these factors do affect me than I can save a few more months before applying because I only recently started working and have little liquid cash. Most of my money goes straight to my CC statement, and is also recently starting to build up since I started working. Last edited by fstop; 02-20-2013 at 01:27 AM.. |

As of now I am not seeing best signup bonus aligned with best rewards system And since these are your first cards, it may not be a bad idea to give importance to rewards over signup bonus considering that you re going to hold these cards for long to build good credit history. Also keep in mind that Amex benefits (extended warranty, purchase protection, extended car rental etc. are top nothc. So is Discover. Also Amex has Twitter promos, small business saturday etc.). Best rewards cards for me are :- Amex Blue Cash -> http://slickdeals.net/f/5853028-A...bonus-YMMV Penfed Platinum VISA (might be hard to get depending on credit) -> https://www.penfed.org/platinum-rewards/ Discover It -> https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/ Chase Freedom -> https://creditcards.chase.com/fre...fault.aspx Best CURRENT signup Bonus -> http://slickdeals.net/f/5796462-U...-year-YMMV |

Getting a new card will definitely help, as you'll significantly increase your total available credit, but using most of your available credit on one particular card (even though it's not as much of your total available credit on all of your cards) is still going to hurt your score. Also, having more open lines of credit (including credit cards, loans, etc) will help your score in a few different ways (more open credit lines, plus increased total available credit, plus longer credit history, longer history of on-time payments, etc).
I would recommend strongly against cards with fees unless you plan to spend a lot of money on the rewards categories. If you switch to a different card for those rewards, or end up not spending as much as you thought, or moving to a place where you don't spend as much on the rewards categories, you'll end up either eating the fees, or cancelling the card (which is generally a bad idea). Personally, I would suggest getting about 3 or 4 cards for the best rewards options. Some cards offer rewards on gas, some on groceries, some on a little bit of everything.. having a few cards means you can get better rewards on more of your spending.
I doubt that not having a savings account will affect your chance of getting accepted for a card. My recommendation after all of this is to post your own thread here with as much detail as possible (after reading through relevant forum threads anyway, which will give you a ton of information already). You'll get more people reading it, and more detailed help with your specific situation. Hope that helps .

Also, it might help to call Citi and tell them about your new (hopefully improved) income and ask for a credit limit increase. |

Before you apply for anything new you need to fix this. Ask Citi for a limit increase and stop spending so much on the card, or just start paying it 2 times a month. I'm not sure how much persistence utilization has but I think it should only take a few months to remedy this. If you want the *literally* (actual literally, not internet literally) best bonus, you will probably have to wait for a while until a good one comes around. Maybe search for historical deals to see what you can expect on the high end. I don't know about their current signup bonus, but I like the Costco Amex for the dining out and gas bonus. There's also a Pennfed (or was it USAA?) card that has a good anytime gas bonus... it was mentioned recently in this thread.
The *only* info the card issuer has to go on is what's in your credit file and on your application. Your credit file only contains basic info on your accounts, how long they've been open, limit, high balance and any late payments. They may ask you *if* you have a checking/savings and if you own/rent and your income, but that's entirely based on *what you tell them*. Last, you might want to check out a forum such as myfico for more helpful info. |
