Shaw's Supermarket Chat Thread

This thread is being created for the OT chat that goes into the Shaw's Deals thread. We are a chatty bunch and have become an extended family. I heart the OT chat, but agree that sometimes we just want to read about the deals. So hopefully this thread will help decrease the OT in the deals thread and we all have a place to chat with each other.

You're absolutely correct when you say that genetics plays a part. One of my bil watches what he eats: low fats, low carbs, beef maybe twice a month etc. He is thin. Yet his cholesterol is very high. Another of my bil eats pretty much what he wants. He isn't thin, but he isn't overweight. His cholesterol is on the lower end of normal.

There's another one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! laugh out loud

Wicked cool Big Grin

OMGosh I just realized the Kool aid guy says something!! LMAO

I agree with genetics too, mine suck, on both sides Frown My mom is a yo-yoer, has been my whole life. She lost 100lbs on WW a long time ago, was a life-time member after that... but then gained it back slowly when she went off of WW. She has terrible eating habbits, terrible. She'd go on all the fad diets, drinks, bars, pills. Nothing ever worked long term for her. She was down again last year, this year not so much. I think she is too old to be doing that to her body over and over. She had 2 knee replacements too, so can't exercise much.

My father has always been heavier too. A few years ago he lost a bunch of weigh and has kept it off. He did gain a little bit back when he had surgery a few months ago, but for the most part has kept it off.

Personally, I have been on the heaver side all my life, since I can remember. In part probably because of eating habits passed down. I don't think I can be a "skinny" person, just the way my body is built. Some people just can't be 5'8 and 110lbs! All my blood work has always been fine though, normal numbers on everything they test for, so not much to worry about there.

Back in May of 2010 when I started WW, I went really strict, lost 50lbs in a few months, probably around September I stopped following so strictly and the weight slowly crept back on, stopped walking the dog when the snow came. Then I got pregnant in June 2011. So I was up 30lbs before I even got pregnant, and gained about 20 with the baby, I was at the exact number I was at before I started losing weight in 2010, when I gave birth. I had a really tough first week and lost all of the baby weight plus 5lbs, it was crazy! I wasn't eating though... But, after I got Hannah right with the formula, got over not being able to BF, I started eating again... not crazy, but normal, and there came the weight back! Now I'm back up about 10lbs and I am feeling terrible about it. I think the fact that I lost all the weight plus some right after she was born, then gained some back is what kills me, if I didn't lose it right away it wouldn't have been so bad. She is only 4 months old... laugh out loud Doesn't help that it's bathing suit season!

I have a bit of a plan though, I'm going to slow down with the carbs, we don't really eat anything "white" as it is, maybe just regular pasta once in a while. Maybe try to get on the treadmill at night when it's a little cooler out, if I have the energy of course. It's not like I sit around on the couch all day eating bon bons, lol, I do have 3 active kids! Back in 2010 I think I set an unattainable goal for myself, picked a number and a time line that was a bit extreme... this time I'm not going to do that.

My problem with exercise is that I can't get over heated, in this heat it is almost impossible to even go for a walk with out that happening. We have a treadmill but it's currently on the back porch, no air out there. I know it's a very important part of becoming healthy though.

I'm still young... keep telling myself that laugh out loud I think it'll get harder the older I get, so I need to figure it out now, do something that I can continue, get into a healthy flow. We shall see!

I hear ya buddy my treadmill is in the garage. Its been killing me but Ive been on it almost daily even when its 85+ out. I open the back garage door so the kids can play and I can watch them still. Im sure if it was in the house the kids would want to play outside but its in the garage and they never want to play outside when im on it LOL.. Punks I tell ya. This am my DD told me I should join WW goodness those lil buggers dont do anything for your selfesteem lol

Im excited though we had a huge pig roast this weekend and I still managed to loose weight this week. I didnt touch anything bad! Im down maybe 8.5lbs and wondering whats gonna happen when I finally eat crap I shouldnt. Ive been dying for my spinach and Artichoke dip!

Ive been dropping only 1-2 lbs a week which I think is good since Ive read the slower you loose the better the odds of it staying off.

My feelings exactly - HUGS! HI!

My biggest reason to avoid too many carbs is the diabetes thing. I just feel so much better without them. I still have my occasional glass of wine and occasional choc bar though and I cannot drink my coffee without sugar vomit

Special shout out to all of Kgerv's cronies. It's always great to come to a defense of a friend. And when you shouted out, you really did so for so many of us.

For years we've taken the abuse and had to listen to the judging - - it's like if you don't shop where he shops and eat what he eats there must be something wrong with you. We can all take it in moderation but it is CONSTANT. He doesn't post deals, only criticism. I would imagine if he posted things that were useful his rep points would be higher. And he seems to purposely frequent threads for stores he refuses to shop, just to tell us not to shop there. Not sure what the motivation is there.... maybe a former disgruntled employee? I mean why would anyone follow a thread for a store they don't shop? I don't get it.

I don't appreciate the negative attitude and constant banter. At one time I even sent him a PM and humbly asked him to stop. Nope, only got more 'back-and-forth' crap. Maybe that makes him a troll and I took the bait. He's a cyber bully and adds no value out here (IMHO). It saddens me to see hurt feelings and good folks having to take the time to defend themselves - - what a waste of time when your out here for deals.

I think his time would be better spent writing a love letter to Trader Joe's than bashing everyone one else. At least then his time would be spent in a more positive way. And I've lost track of how many times I've suggested he start a TJ's Thread out here on SD. Wouldn't that be a more positive - - to spend time contributing to a store and thread you love and not those that you hate?

We're all a little weird and have our own funny ways in what we do but he's just mean.

I only speak for myself here but I do not welcome any posts from him.

Okay, I'm done now. I'm going back to ignoring him.

OAN... If anyone is doing the Free Depends at RA, my mom could use them. She wears size S/M. I'd also be willing to pay $1 a box if you're out of the $2/1 IP. It's a bitch getting old. Thanks.
