Shaw's Supermarket Chat Thread

This thread is being created for the OT chat that goes into the Shaw's Deals thread. We are a chatty bunch and have become an extended family. I heart the OT chat, but agree that sometimes we just want to read about the deals. So hopefully this thread will help decrease the OT in the deals thread and we all have a place to chat with each other.

Have you seen pics of the chaos at MB? They won't restock til next week...
I couldn't imagine what MB would be like but I got word from someone I know that lines were 1 hr at about 3 pm EEK!. Went to Hannies Thursday morning and it was actually a bit busier than normal but things were very much in control. Went to S&S to grab a couple things at 10 pm on Thursday and my eyes almost popped out of my head seeing their parking lot 3/4 full at that time of night. But they had things in control with 3 regular and 6 SCO lanes open despite 7 people managing all that volume as I only waited 1 minute as the SCO attendant rang me up at register they bring problem orders to at the SCO (despite having a straightforward order. Sale items were wiped out pretty well by then though but still there was plenty of other things to go around.

Hope everyone is safe & warm during this storm. We lost power about an hour ago, while I was in the middle of cooking dinner. Looks like we'll just be eating rice, since that's all that was done, lol.

My husband is an emt and has to work at 11, but he's leaving as soon as he digs the car out. I'm really worried about how he's going to make it there, since there's a driving ban right now. We live near another ambulance company, and I told him to walk over there and ask if he could hitch a ride with any trucks going into Boston, but he doesn't think they'll do it. How do you know if you won't even ask? So stubborn.

Ugh, men.

I worked 2pm to 10pm-ish. Husband got out at 1am. Drove me in with the Jeep, then back home. Used it for work driving tonight-stole the magnetic signs off the maintenance truck and they paid him gas. Wasn't too bad on way in, way home wasn't awful, but the GUSTS. EEK! Total white out for 5-15seconds and if you don't know the road you'd end up in a ditch. No driving ban, but only saw state plows and a couple local plows out while we drove home.

Got home and my car is CLEAN with a 6inch wide space around it from the wind.LMAO DH's spot was about 3 feet deep. Had to shovel it down to get in. While we did that the power lines the next street over started sparking. Still have power here, but its WINDY. Super high tide tomorrow morning as well. Hoping to get up and take some pics if its not too windy still.

Get to do it all again tomorrow. The callouts are just awful. We started getting them Thurs for tonight. None yet for tomorrow, but I'm sure once people get up and realize there are a couple ft of snow out they will.

Stay safe there. From the looks of the streets in my neighborhood, it is too dangerous to drive this morning, so we will wait it out. Things will improve hopefully, but I don't expect to make it out of my driveway here in MA until at least 4 pm; and possibly not until tomorrow. Though, we are lucky we did not even lose power. Looking at what I'm seeing, I don't blame anyone for calling out.

We drove 30 all the way home. Called out today. Tim almost had to go in and when we went to go out and shovel the snow was over the hood of the Jeep. I called and told them if DH isn't going in I'm not. He would have made $20/hr today to my $8.50ish. Not worth it for me alone. Called back and hour later and apologized and reminded them it was super dangerous of a drive last night and no way was I repeating it tonight. First time I've ever called out. And of course we are surrounded by flooding and closed streets as a result. We'll spend the day snuggling with the dogs and hopefully the wind will die down tomorrow so we can dig out. Everything we've shoveled has pretty much blown back down.

Had cinnamon rolls and bacon and OJ for breakfast. Thinking the other half of the steak tips and taters and salad for lunch and chicken parm with salad for dinner. Might as well take advantage to feed the husband well.

And some cookies and marshmallows for work tomorrow. And starting the blood orange marmalade.

Ang, so glad to hear you're safe. I hope the flooding doesn't get you guys. hug Funny -- we had cinnamon rolls and bacon for b'fast yesterday, too!!!

Lisa, I went out last night to RA. Roads were find, my driveway wasn't. Got stuck and DH had to get it up the last stretch. Hope you can get good stuff w/your UPs -- try asking them to key the first 11 digits, that used to work, not sure if it still does. From what I understand, they send in their Qs Sunday night. Good luck!

I didn't go I figured I try to get them to do the look up. I couldn't see leaving the kids home w a sleeping hubby who would never hear them. My dd was asleep but my ds was still up waiting for me to lay w him.
I figured by the time he fell asleep and I got out if the roads were bad ( got stuck or someone crashed into me ) the $16 wouldn't have been worth it at all. Oh we'll I guess....

My DDs 8th birthday is on Thursday, know what that means? Cake!! I have been doing so good, no sweets, no cheating, and now cake. I am so torn, and I know that sounds so dumb, on one hand I want to have a piece of cake with my daughter on her day, on the other I don't want to jeopardize all of my progress!! (Down another 1lb Saturday) I suppose I could just have a very small piece, and just hope it doesn't make me crave carbs again. I did have a piece of ice cream cake on my sons birthday with no problem getting back on. Then we have another birthday in March, torture!! Smilie

Only 3 more months till my sisters wedding! Ahhh!

Hope everyone is well!

Do you know the three bite rule ? If you REALLY want something Dr. Mike suggests the 3 bite rule...have three scrumptious (reasonable size) bites and then push it/give it/throw it away !!!! it works Stick Out Tongue
