Shaw's Supermarket Chat Thread

This thread is being created for the OT chat that goes into the Shaw's Deals thread. We are a chatty bunch and have become an extended family. I heart the OT chat, but agree that sometimes we just want to read about the deals. So hopefully this thread will help decrease the OT in the deals thread and we all have a place to chat with each other.

OK I am jealous of the morning glory...I havent tried them in years cuz I tried a zillion times at previous home. I will have to try next year. Have you ever looked at davesgarden.com? It is limited on the free part, yes I pay for it. I got hooked 5 years ago when DH was on chemo and I couldnt go to far. If you want to take a better look let me know and I will pm my user name and password. It was a little less then...and people mailed plants to each other. Bulbs too, it was spring and DH got a kick out of our spring Christmas LOL
I do DG but only the freebie side. Its a bit clunky for me to want to pay a yearly fee to join....besides we can swap seedlings/bulbs here. Just not as much since I had to switch jobs...Frown

Nobody ever seems really interested in such things either. I always offer and nobody seems to really be that excited about seedlings, seeds or bulbs. Or they say they would take some and go out and buy their own instead. *shrug*

Me! Me! I was always excited! Some of my blueberries are doing really well, a couple are struggling, I think I need to fertilize them this fall. There was some kind of beetle eating the leaves, I'd go up and pick them off but I think I may break down next year and use something chemical to keep them off. My Roma's are growing like weeds, gave one to Jenny b/c I didn't have room for it. Big Grin

OMG the sales at RA and CVS suck this week. Frown

What are the cereal snackbars by snackwells? Never heard of that before or maybe because I never buy them. Scratchhead LMAO Going to good for pix.
I wish they would read these bogs/ postings whatever. Then they;d get sales- why doesn;'t the customer drive sales/ promotions anymore? Do they think the internet- hence watching sales prices don't exist?

I typed up a response to this last night, and then my internet went poof. I am such a newbie at all this, but I would LOVE to share stuff. I would just need guidance on how to go about doing it. LOL

I still want to do blueberries and more roses. I stopped at a garden store yesterday and they had self pollinating blueberry bushes for 35 dollars. I cam so close to buying one, but I didn't. The roses they had looked really pathetic, but I'm wondering if it's just too late in the season for them and maybe I should wait until next year?

I bought it last time and tried it..it is very good! Then I thought "wait, why don't I just use chocolate milk instead and be a tad healthier...'

Has anyone seen Fat Free Baileys? They were all fat-full last time I checked..

Karen, I made an organic spray because the japanese beetles are horrible this year. I've never had to spray in the past. I used 2 spoons of minced garlic and a small onion, pureed it, added 2 tbsp hot sauce, put in a quart mason jar, shook well, and let it sit over night, the strained it several times to get out the big chunks and put in a spray bottle I got at RA garden clearance for I think 15 cents. All organic and smells good too!

Garlic and onion are natural deterrents to beetles and the hot sauce just makes the plant taste bad. Wash the berries before eating of course, lol. Plant garlic and/or chives by your blueberry bushes for next year to keep the beetles at bay naturally.

For those of you who enjoy Magnum ice cream bars...you can get a great deal at BJ's on them right now. I just got 18 bars for $9.98. A box of 9 bars is $7.99 and their July 2011 coupon book has a $2 coupon. Pair that with the $1 MQ from V 5/22/2011. Just move fast b/c the MQ expires on 7/30.

I have to admit that I am clueless as to the new barcode issue so if someone tells me what to look for on the coupons, I can tell you what they look like.

It was clear that ds7 had not been to the grocery store in a while with me. As my dd's were taking some of the coupons for me, he says "put them back girls, Mommy only needs one!"

Sorry, if I am dense but did you add water to the organic spray? It seems logical and I don't why else you'd need to put it in a quart jar nor how you'd otherwise spray it but I am a gardening noob!

I think you were just waiting for the new coupon.

So I wasnt around all weekend, no flyers or coupons or papers. I looked at Hannafor already, is there anything food at MB this week?
MB has whole chickens on sale for $.89/lb which is on my list this week. Lobster is $4.99/lb. Green beans are $.99/lb as is broccoli crowns and European seedless cucumbers. Cabot butter is $2.50/lb. Krakus imported ham is $3.79/lb. Haddock (wild, fresh) is $5.99/lb. Freihoffers country breads are $2. That's what looks good to me this week. But don't look to me for anything in a box because we don't really eat that stuff. Oh, 93% lean hamburger is $2.99/lb.---almost missed that one because I don't buy hamburger.

Still trying to get on board with the deals after vacation. So, there's a Viva deal both at Shaws and at S&S? Are people doing both? I'm not sure what coupons I have for Viva but if it's a great deal Ishall try it. Any recommendations about which store to hit if I can only do one?

Edit: I have only $1/2 coupons for the Viva. Is it worth it?
