Shaw's Supermarket Chat Thread

This thread is being created for the OT chat that goes into the Shaw's Deals thread. We are a chatty bunch and have become an extended family. I heart the OT chat, but agree that sometimes we just want to read about the deals. So hopefully this thread will help decrease the OT in the deals thread and we all have a place to chat with each other.

Corn special sounds good as this year's regular price at Pete's in Salem NH is $2.75/6 or $5/12; maybe I'll try it if I can get up there before its done. I saw the b1g1 sale on their FB but didn't see it til it was too late. Love all the fresh herbs they've been putting out, such as they now have fresh mint and pretty good looking cauliflower; lettuce is $.90 a head. Even the yellow beans at $1.50/lb aren't bad. Been wanting to get to Parlee's but there's always something (if its not the heat, its something else like a dentist appointment; and if I want to go, at least the PYO field is closed). So with that, I just told DS to get the plums, nectarines, and peaches at Shaw's for $.99/lb as he was in the neighborhood and we needed fruit.

.

Their price is 6.25 a dozen, which is more, but in my opinion, totally worth it. They didn't advertise the special on FB yesterday, so I was surprised when I saw the sign. I cooked some up on the grill last night with just olive oil, salt and pepper, and ate one while the meat was cooking. Smilie I did give some to my neighbor, and he gave James two handfuls of cherry tomatoes. Pretty good deal if you ask me!

It would be to hot for me somewhere that has a longer growing season I bet Frown I don't do well with heat. OMG your muffins sound so yummy!!! The guy with the veggie cart down the street has had red potatoes for a couple weeks now, so tempting, I may need to try those next year.
You are right about the heat, but I think I could try to get used to it. Smilie Maybe our next trip should be in January so I can really test my tolerance.

The muffins are wayyyyy too good. I'm sending them to work with my husband so I don't eat them all. The 5lbs of blueberries are almost gone. The recipe only called for one cup and I did give some to the neighbors but I think Little James has put away about 3lbs himself. He was so funny when we were walking back from giving them to one neighbor last night he kept saying all sad 'bye bye blueberries'.

We planted two types of potatoes. The Red Norland are the ones I LOVE. The other ones are some type of Russian Banana or something or other- haven't been able to harvest yet, so I'm not sure about them. I think I will plant an entire box of the Reds next year.

Morning all!

Curious/concerned-anyone seen or heard from LisaSD? Hope she is okay and just on vacation.

I've been having some fun at Shaw's this week. Been there twice so far with another trip planned for tonight. Can't remember the last time I went to Shaw's so much in one week. Next week looks rather disappointing though.

Anyone have recommendations on the best places for tire deals? I will be needing 4 new tires before winter starts. I hate the thought but it is a must do this year. I have BJ's, Sears, Sullivan Tire, Goodyear and of course random independant tire places local to me. I would appreciate any advice/input! TIA!

They were at the back of the store where I shop, in between the ends of the aisles and the meat cases. Big cardboard display, with coupon holders attached. Didn't really focus on the design, it might have been like a school bus.

Don't look at Shaws for these, stick with Hannaford. They always seem to have these out. Although once you see the display Dover will probably have them behind the CS counter in Shaws. They would keep the sale items back there if they could I swear....
Thank you both! Repped you, Ang, but I have to spread some love before I can rep you again, Lauren.

Out of those places, BJ's looks like it'd be the best price, even if you need to pay for a 1 year membership. And then you can get their deals on stuff that really doesn't go on cat deals. We have all those in my area, plus more and the wholesale clubs tend to be the best deal (and in my case, it was $100 lower than any other place for the most part), no matter which club you pick.

Same here with Shaw's; I've been there 2 times this week and the only time I've done more business with them is during the gift card cat as even the Wild Harvest stuff was a worthwhile deal and the email 5/25s and the ones on their website too just made them worthwhile to even buy fish last weekend which hasn't happened in awhile (other than for the gift card cat in which I paid up a little because it was almost like free money).

Green grapes this coming week are $1.49 in my ad.

Sorry, if I am dense but did you add water to the organic spray? It seems logical and I don't why else you'd need to put it in a quart jar nor how you'd otherwise spray it but I am a gardening noob!
Yep. I put the onion and garlic in a mini food processor and pureed it, dumped it all(including juices) in a quart jar, added hot sauce, added water to fill to top, then lidded it and let steep overnight. Then strained it a few times to take out the biggest chunks so it wouldn't clog the sprayer, transferred to sprayer bottle and off I went to the garden. If you do this, make sure you spray the undersides of the leaf also and after every rain.

It smelled so good, I wanted to spray it on my grilled pork chops!

I want to say Thank you so much to Karen and Jenny!!!!!!!!!!!! I am stocked to the ceiling with cookies and bars!! DH isn't so happy, but he'll get over it. Jenny - I used every last one of the coupons you sent me (got them today) today Smilie Hope you're doing well tonight, thinking about you tomorrow hug ....
You're welcome and thank you. I'm pretty nervous now - and thirsty. They do kids and elderly in the morning since those age groups have a hard time going without food and water. Then us "healthy," spry, young people get scheduled later. I'm due in at 11am with surgery starting at 12:30 lasting 2 hours. Should be home around 4-5pm, but dunno if I will feel up to getting on and harassing you, lol.

Does anyone know what the chatter about a $2 skincare printable coupon is on the RA thread this week? I read through a bunch of posts but am not getting the exact deal. I gather that if you buy certain (maybe all???) first aid items you get a coupon for skincare. Yes? No? Maybe? All week?

Stacey, I had mine done in Goodyear last year when they had promotion of buy 3 get 1 or sth like that... plus I get employee discount there too.. my DH had his done in Sam's club, very very good price, better than Goodyear...

Bee-yoo-tiful! What are those long green things that look like s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d beans? everything looks great, I'm betting it won't last until tomorrow. Wink Just picked my first yellow squash this morning, only thing that's ready.

Karen, the long bean is Chinese string beans, they grow so long, actually my father picked it early ,he said if he didn't pick them, the rest won't grow. It can grow couple feet long, we ate those a lot when I was little. We have been picking cukes for few weeks now, haven't bought any for a while, picked about 6 zucchini so far, 6 bell pepper, few pounds of green beans already... I just wish we have a bigger yard, he can grow more greens for us.

Cindy, the butternut squash is from my in law's garden, we planted some veggies there, could be few more, but the deer ate all the plants except one, I think my FIL picked it early, could let it grow and mature more, but I am not complaining since he let us to use his yard...Big Grin
