Stack a movers coupon to make deal even better.

Home Depot says they'll beat any competitor by 10% right in the ad. Must purchase carpet and pad.

They sell just about everything smaller retailers sell. Get a total price from someone like Levi's 4 Flooring, with the labor/carpet broken down, and take it to Lowes, and present them with the movers coupon.

These rates are a joke. They are essentially a bate and switch. This does not include stairs and a number of other different "exceptions". Just go into it knowing you WILL pay more than $97.

Carpet is a higher price / yd.
Watch the pad price too.

Get a quote from one or two other places. I guarantee you'll pay at least 10% less.

When you go for quotes, have the measurements ready on a note pad. Odd size rooms will use more carpet, which you'll have to pay for.

Not covered: customization, installation on steps, or any other optional labor such as removal, haul-away, or moving of furniture.

So it's $97 for installation in a completely empty, stair-free house with no existing floor covering. That's if there's no "customization".

Does anybody know if they install laminate or hardwood, and how much that costs?

Yes, they do. Last time I looked at it about a year ago, it was about $5/sf.

true but if you can take out the old carpet yourself, i would just let them finish the carpeting for 97 bucks, if i were to calculate my own labor cost, i would probably worth more LMAO

although carpet is old school anyway, newer homes (and home which attracts new gen of buyers) go for hardwood now...if i were to do the house, i will probably go with hardwood

Both Lowes and Home Depot charge $35 dollars to come out and do all the measurements. If you decide to have them do the install they will deduct the $35 from the $97.

Also, it works out to about $11 per stair.

I tried that. these carpet dealers are such a scam. Every other place is like 20% to 40% MORE than home depot for the exact same carpet. HD changes the names of the carpets and so you have to take the samples and find the identical carpets at the other places or have them call their dealer reps. But, enevitably, HD is always less.

There was also a $37/ installed lowes special for stainmaster carpet. Supposedly HD will match it.

Also this deal is like every other week at either lowes or home depot, nothing new at all.

Like everyone else said they will charge extra for removal haul away stairs....etc.

That being said I have had carpet installed in a few of my houses and you really can't beat the overall cost/quality ratio you get from lowes or home depot (just don't get the cheapest stuff). All the local carpet installers are going to run at least 20% more from my experience for a similiar quality carpet after all install costs.
