THERE IS NEW INFORMATION - PLEASE SEE 3/19 EDIT BELOW

For those whose XBR1 televisions have had the optical block mess up on them and they have a green / yellow / blue screen - Sony is willing to work with you to make you happy. This is not a new program - before they had offered extended warranty on the Optical Block - now they are simply offering discounts on new televisions. They have been offering discounts for a little bit, i believe, but in the beginning of March, they apparently have changed the offer (in case this was posted before, a search did not bring it up).

AS THE TITLE STATES - THIS IS ONLY FOR XBR1 TELEVISIONS - NOT ALL SXRD TELEVISIONS

Here is the number to call to get the SXRD Resolution Center:
888-993-7669

The following is what I was offered - but this offer has since changed - see the 3/19 edit below

KDL-55HX701 [sonystyle.ca] for $550 + tax (which is what i chose)
or
KDL-55EX501 [sonystyle.com] for $350 + tax (The link takes you to the 500 - the 501 is the same basic model, but the one that sells at Costco)
or
KDL-46VE5 [sonystyle.com] for FREE

EDIT 3/29 - SONY HAS CHANGED HOW TO GET THE OFFER

Not that they have necessarily changed the offer details itself - though they might have - they HAVE changed something in the process. No longer is only having a sticker a viable option. I suppose because of people taking advantage of this situation and simply purchasing stickers, now you must also provide a picture of your ticket number AND the television together. So if someone buys a sticker, they now need to ALSO have a television for this to work.

It appears that the offer has now changed - it's reported on page 11 that Sony is no longer offering the KDL-46VE5 for free or the 46v5100 for $50 or the KDL-55HX701 for $550. Here is what Sony is NOW offering...

KDL-46NX700 [sonystyle.com] for $160 + tax (Edge-lit LED display)

or

KDL-55EX501 [sonystyle.com] for $350 + tax (The link takes you to the 500 - the 501 is the same basic model, but the one that sells at Costco)

or

KDL-52EX701 [sonystyle.com] for $550 + tax (Edge-lit LED display, though 120 hz) - Not sure what the "1" is on the end, perhaps another Costco model like the 501 offered before.

Feel free to use the Wiki if you have any further updates.

END EDIT of 3/29

When you call - they will ask some questions concerning when and where purchased (though fortunately no receipt is necessary since i lost mine at some point) - they will ask you about the problem to verify it IS the optical block - and then they'll go right into the offer. You will simply be required to send the sticker with the model number and serial number from the back of your messed up television to their offices and they'll process your request. As much as i hate to lose my old SXRD television (INCREDIBLE picture quality up until the green screen problem), this is a great opportunity to get a nice replacement for cheap. Even if you don't like Sony's offerings, you can't discredit the value for what you pay.

Also - you keep the old television, in case you'd like to either sell it to a staging company or someone who likes screen real estate and doesn't mind the green tint - or you can just put it in your garage / den as a second television in a place you don't care what happens to it - just a thought.

I hope this helps someone out!

UPDATE: I have received a shipping notice from Sony - hopefully soon i will receive my television!

AS OF 3/22 - SONY HAS CHANGED THE OFFER

It appears that the offer has now changed - it's reported on page 11 that Sony is no longer offering the KDL-46VE5 for free or the KDL-55EX501 for $350 or the KDL-HX701 for $550. Here is what Sony is NOW offering...

For comparison - this website [flatpanelshd.com] is a decent overview about the different Series and where these televisions fit in (with the exception of the 46z5100 which is last year's model) - i have also attached two charts from that page which show various characteristics of Sony's models. They are European, so some numbers and such will be different - but the information should still help to compare. The HX701 is on one, the EX700 is on the other.

There are others who claim they were offered ...

KDL-46NX700 [sonystyle.com] for $175 + tax - which i probably would have taken had i been offered it since it is an LED television

Yeah - that's what's kinda crazy about this to me - the XBR1 televisions were most popular around 2005/6. Many have been optical block problems for years - and Sony has extended warranty with them replacing the blocks for free. Now they're doing this. Mine didn't have a problem at all until late last year - so it worked well for me for about 4 years or so - which, for me, is about how long to have a television anyway until you're ready to replace it with newer tech that's on the market - gone are the days of keeping a television 10-15 years imo. Anyway - about the time i might start looking for an upgrade, Sony's offering one! Works great!

So it's as easy as making a call?
Are you all referring to the screen having a green tint to it?

What if you received the TV as a gift and don't know the where the tv was purchased? I don't know the exact store but I can narrow it down to 2 local stores?

How do they verify over the phone that your TV has the optical block problem? Also, after Sony presents you an offer do they run the model and serial number to make sure you qualify? My TV might not be resgistered in my name with Sony. Will that make a difference?

It's Interesting that Sony is offering replacement offers on these older models.

Very simple, after dial the numbers I waited for a minute then a person asked me some questions. I stated the optical block issues. I had my tv registered when I purchased a while back so she pulled up the model immediately. She then presented 2 options: fix the issue with my own money!!! or the offers in the OP's post.
I still love my SXRD and it will stay in the media room till it completely dies!

They didn't seem to be sticklers at all on where it was purchased - i just stated the store and i don't think there's really any verification process that i know of - if you've got it narrowed down between two, i'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal if you gave one of them. And verifying that it IS the optical block was as easy as my saying that the screen had a greenish tint - and they asked me if it did it on different inputs or only one - and asked how it started doing it (mine started on the top and bottom right corner, and within two months it had filled the screen).

Hope this helps

So, they didn't even send out a repair tech. I was told that is what they were going to do. Originally, I thought it was a bad bulb again.

It might still be worthwhile calling Sony - from the avsforum where i got my information, someone who had a KDF-60XBR950 was offered...

KDL-46NX700 for $875 + tax

or

KDL-55HX701 for $1250 + tax

I know the prices aren't the same - but it's still worth trying imo - good luck

I have similar questions/concerns. I'm not the original owner of this TV, and I have no idea where it was purchased. Was this a standard Best Buy sort of TV?

I have a SXRD KDS-55A2020 with the optical block issue. I just got off the phone with Sony and they want to send a tech out to fix it. The guy said for this model there is no other offer available for a discount on a new TV. Darn, I was sure hoping I could replace the TV with a newer model.
