Even if Arthur T comes back, he has a steep hill to climb. He has a lot of support on his back but there will be people looking for work elsewhere with each passing day, so it's just going to get steeper with each and every passing day. He's got a lot of broken vendor and supplier relationships too, and local produce farms that are getting hurt over this, and they'll be finding other ways to get their veggies to market.
People that work there and are supporting ATD already know their jobs will be secured if he returns as CEO or at least have controlling ownership of MB. ATD does not have broken vendor/supplier relationships. If anything, any smart person watching the news would not blink at an agreement between ATD/MB vs. ASD/MB. It's obvious that ATD has his work cut out for him upon his retrun, but just as quickly as things went down -- they'll go up for him. MB is most likely going to get sued either by C&S Wholesale Grocer or by those Name Brand Product Companies. MB (the company) will have to foot the bill for the lost food as they were responsible vis-a-vis chain of command. Rick Cohen (CEO of C&S) is THE RICHEST person in the NE. He lives in Keene, NH and they did a story on him last year. At 11.2 Billion dollars and being a native, I'm thinking he'd take the chance of continuing service to ATD/MB. I'm sure there's been some stop orders or maybe they're just donating the food at this point.
Pretty dumb what ASD pulled and it's a damn shame that the Demoulas family shifted power. If anything I was pretty sure they weren't going to pull anything after ATD's job was saved the last time. Either way, pretty dumb move. Not only are those controlling members who wanted their money "NOW!" and attempted to remove ATD are now faced with a couple of realities:
1.) You just lost most of your trust funds, baby. If those expenses aren't recouped, the business will go bankrupt and so will they -- so it's either OO(their own)P or increased sales/selling of property/buildings etc.
2.) EVERYONE HATES YOU and what you represent. Did you see ASD's face on the news. Doesn't look like there's enough antacids in NE to sooth that stomach ache.
3.) Sell your company to an outside company or to your worse enemy/cousin. Tough decisions...
For someone who's in love with capitalism, he sure is capitalizing on despair.
On Shaws' website.. the big book of savings i believe it is called. You can find it under the deals tab. My store never received the coupon booklets (or the one before for that matter) so I print off the site.
Quite some great clearance deals in the frozen section in the Wild Harvest section of all places. Alden's organic ice cream is down to $3.99 (from $7.99), and there were pints there as well at $2.99 (from $5.99). About 20 different items in this section on clearance at DHW Nashua. Garelick milk went down to $2.69 everyday which is smart too especially with the crowds. My jedi cashier says they have lines going down the aisle last weekend which was nice of him to do as he encouraged me to come before 11 am or after 7 pm if I need to come on the weekend. And this week's sale is even better so the crowd is only going to grow larger w/ this week's sale being better than last.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I think this Shaw's (and many others) will need to expand their checkout - quite a few people are saying they are overpriced but on the other hand more people are having a good reaction to how well the store has improved since being bought out form Supervalu according to my friend. Even considering traffic may be shifting back if MB gets it back together, he thinks they'll at least retain a chunk of it. Looks like MB situation isn't going to be resolved anytime soon as Arthur T gave S an ultimatum to accept the offer by 5 pm today or he is pulling it so I think we'll see Christmas Eve crowds at the grocery stores more in the foreseeable future, and MB's job fair just shows me that they are focusing on the wrong issues.
