yeah seriously. V and MA have gone parabolic now. At this point, I'll never add to my long positions Sadwalk
Good lord, broham...just how much more do you think they will run? Take your money and get out. MA hasn't seen it's 200 day MA in 2 years.

I don't think experience really matters for a president. My point is that you can't really use his own words from 4 years ago against him.

Don't get me wrong, they could both pull back for a day and run really hard to the upside again still. But you can clearly see the trend channel break on Finviz if you'd like to consult the chart.

There's about a 99% chance of a down or sideways day after anything has closed 6 consecutive days outside the daily 20-period Bollinger band. V is on it's seventh today depending on it's close.

Buy it on a pullback (hardly ever has one though LOL). I added a lot to MA in June 2012 when it pulled back below the 50/200 MA

They are both riding the global secular trend to cashless payments and are embracing mobile pay solutions pretty aggressively. They are expensive stocks, but the companies have very strong "moats" Quite frankly, they are massive FCF-generation machines and outside of governments regulating them as financial "utilities" so to speak, I don't expect this to change.

thanks! i'll have to look at the technicals when i get a chance. how do you think they will fare w/ mobile pay solutions with companies like square popping up or even companies like amex adopting mobile-pay (w/ serve, bluebird, etc.) and having a first entrant(s) advantage? at least, with square, the use is already quite widespread and they have backing from even mr. schultz (i saw these units on sale at my local sbux). plus, there are things like bitcoin gaining popularity also. square still uses them to process the transaction. Same with paypal (unless you've hooked it up to a bank account).

Visa has introduced V.me to compete against paypal. Mastercard is teaming up with google to work on google wallet [mastercard.us].

On top of that, they both have an extensive debit/credit network B&M that goes without saying.

also $0 in debt Big Grin

Let me know when you guys are all-in, esp on Visa. The XLF is ripe for punishment and they've led the sector for long enough. Big Grin

V traded with financials in 09-10. Investing sheeeple were too silly realize why it shouldn't have and since then, they've wisened up. V ma just maintain the toll road. The issuing Banks are on the hook for the debt.

In that regard, axp and dfs have credit risk (which has impacted their returns)

Is this a good thread where if I know squat about investing and want to begin investing, this thread would be an excellent place to start learning? If not, would you kindly direct me to that correct thread? Thank you.

I'm looking for a few daily VIX closes 12 and below, maybe 10 to even begin to "worry.'
Do you play the VIX at all? Seems like everything out there (short-term future contracts/ETNs) end up getting killed on contago.

Yup. Mom and Pop investors have been running away for years. Now they are coming back and some astute analysts are suggesting this to be a top (a la 07 when everyone and their mother was in the market).

Yes sometimes, mainly on the short side via XIV. I mainly watch VIX/VXO and fancy stuff like vega and term structure. Remember that "VIX" is 30 day options and has nothing to do with "volatility"...really. Really no reason it can't go to 9-10 if there's a short squeeze here if the Sept highs are taken out. The Russell 2000 broke to new highs day one of 2013.

Looks like from the most recent data I've seen, net inflows to mutual funds and ETF'S is up rather large since the pop after new year's. When no one worries and is all up in equities, especially the financials, I start looking for either major currency plays/trends that could lead the way down.

I think it will be good ole $US. It better pick a direction here quick. Not picking one, but will watch the cavalry as it leaves town before jumping on.
