A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

Monkfish 12,435 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

what on earth are you talking about? are you upset that i said the movie Flight was, at the core, a movie about addiction?
Don't play dumb. It's tiresome.

That's is the second time somebody's replied to me here with that sign-off. In both cases, the person said nothing significant or interesting.

"Happiness and depression are both feelings, just like joy and anger. It's not feelings that give us problems. It's what we do with them that makes the difference."

"When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them they didn't understand life."

Get off her case. She made a statement about what the movie meant to her personally. Nothing wrong with that.

Angels in America - I'm still trying to figure out whose idea it was to turn a strange senseless play into an even weirder pointless movie. But who cares? Justin Kirk + full frontal = happy me.

Ask the Dust - Too bad the dust didn't blow the script across the desert or damage the film.

Have you seen the movie?

I'd love it if someone else who has actually seen the movie could comment on it. I think anyone who watches it would have a hard time disagreeing with me.

I thought it was... slow. (Flight)

I wish the entire movie was a puppet movie like in the skit for it at the Oscars.
(warning: may contain slight spoilers of the first 20 minutes of the movie)

Searching for Sugar Man - Documentary about a talented musician in the 70's who pulled a disappearing act like a real life Eddie and the Cruisers. Great music, interesting story, beautiful editing. Agree with the critics - its a must see. heart

Texas Killing Fields - Not sure why the bad reviews. Perhaps the casting doesn't have enough oomph? It's a fairly gritty backwoods rainy day kinda movie. The original director said it was so dark it wouldn't get made but it's super tame compared to other films dealing with the same subject matter. Dark yes, but not disturbing or graphic.

Identity Thief - Watched this and forgot to critique it but loved the movie overall. Jason Batemen does his classic babyface roll similar to his character in Arrested Development. Melissa McCarthy is as fun as always just like in Mike and Molly. It's a fun watch. Only thing I didn't like about it was that they want you to believe identity thieves have a sympathetic streak? They're identity thieves for a reason and it's not because they care about who they hustle. Great watch though anyway.
