A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Cool, thanks. I will check that out.

You're on! And extra points for Bourne. The first one is one of my all time favorite movies.
I can hear the theme music in my head and get excited at the prospect of watching the movie.

Insidious 2 - Worse than the first film but it wasn't my idea to watch it. Stick Out Tongue

Surf's Up - Cute and funny especially when you get the inside jokes but quickly wore thin.

The Truth About Emanuel - Critics panned it and audiences didn't seem to care for it either but I loved it. Like an English language version of a foreign film - in fact - the critics would've felt differently if it was a foreign film. Basically, two strangers are drawn together through grief over their separate mysterious experiences with loss.

All is Lost - Robert Redford certainly was in this film with no dialogue or other actors. If you loved watching Tom Hanks in Castaway then you'll probably love this. Unbelievably boring with predictable ending.

Pink: Truth About Love Tour Live from Melbourne - Wonderful. Both the performance and backstage footage.

How I live Now - Set in the near future, an American girl is sent by her dad to stay with family in the English countryside as the possibility of war in Europe looms. From what I've read, the book is much better than the movie. There are some beautiful shots in the beginning but movie is very grim through the majority of it. I found myself wishing I'd read the book first as the movie doesn't really round out the main character. 2.5/5

Bourne Legacy. wasn't as good as Identity, Supremacy, or Ultimatum. but it is not as bad as some I know have made it out to be.

FYI Dish customers. Free HBO and Cinemax weekend. Bounce

The Crash Reel - Incredible story about snowboarder Kevin Pearce and his recovery from a head injury. Not into that sport but a great film that I can relaly relate to on a personal level. Frown

Mud - 8.5/10

Excellent movie, on Netflix so go watch it. Two kids befriend a stranger on an island on the Mississippi River, mystery and adventure follows. I wanted to be like those kids when I was a kid but probably good thing I wasn't. Just watch it, seriously.

The Jungle Book - 8/10

The bear necessities!

We Are What We Are - 6.5/10

Meh. Family with an old disturbing tradition.

The Last Airbender - 6/10

Went into with movie with super low expectations because I like to hate on M Night movies but it was ok, if you ignore the crappy dialog and the crappy narration. I haven't seen the animated series so that probably made it bearable. If I had, I'd probably have different expectations.

Hangover 3 - I enjoyed it. Not as good as the original, but that's kind of expected, but better than the second one.

42 - Not that into sports movies, but this wasn't bad.

Now You See Me - Started out interesting then kind of lost me in the middle. The ending both made sense and didn't make sense at the same time. I got why they did what they did, but how they managed to pull it off was a bit unbelievable.

The Heat - Yawn I do want a refrigerator like the one in the movie. Evil

Man of Steel - What a major disappointment, I was extremely excited and hoping for a great Superman movie. Sad to say this made Superman Returns look like a masterpiece. vomit Highlights include bad writing, bad acting (with the exception of Laurence Fishburne), major plot holes, too long, and really bad & overused CGI. To me the Superman character was a bigger jerk than Zod (the bad guy) and that's just wrong.

I watched the recent movie, Flight (2012), whilst on vacation in the Smokies. It wasn't at all what I was expecting, but I am glad things ended like they did. John Goodman stole the film for me.

The Counselor -One of those long drawn out sagas with a lot of bad dialogue and subversive ? content. Like you get the gist of what's going on but it's hard to connect the whole plot - nothing is very obvious. In a three minute discussion, Fassbender's character gets called "counselor" over 10 times. Every line begins and ends with it. Fassbender has horrible yellow teeth from smoking in real life and it's distracting. Oh and Cameron Diaz screws a car: "It was too gynecological to be sexy."

Ginger Snaps Back - Average. Love the saracasm. Love that Mr. Argent from Teen Wolf is in it. Great werewolf trivia.

Thor: The Dark World -
Very good. Great special effects and good laughs.

I'll reserve judgement until I find out what kind of car she screws.
