A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Ghostbusters -- eh. Low-brow compared to the original, which wasn't exactly high-brow. I have to mention the irony and hypocrisy of the producers and actors saying that everyone who hated the trailer were sexist and hate women, and then the movie comes out and it's full of sexist man-hating.

Buzzard -- Take a SlickDealer, then remove all morals as they constantly try to cheat at everything to save a dollar. Stealing office supplies and returning them to the store without a receipt, cutting his hand then trying to stop the blood long enough to get to work so he can blame it on a work accident, etc. No, it's not a comedy.

Never Back Down: No Surrender - my favorite underrated action star, (and he's good at regular acting too!), Michael Jai White, kicks butt in an MMA-inspired martial arts movie.

Batman: The Killing Joke -- the popular comic book (uh, I mean graphic novel) story comes to life in animated form. The story has the ingredients for an inspired, R-rated, dark and twisted tale like the graphic novel it's spawned from, but the animation and some other things lets it down.

Warcraft -- World of Warcraft movie. How does someone screw this up? shake head

White God -- Dad gets rid of girl's dog. Girl and dog get mad. One of them gets really mad. Drama turns into horror. I guess there's also some metaphors in there about immigration and race if you care to look from that view, but there would be multiple angles to debate what it means.

The End of the Tour -- Jason Segel plays a famous writer who hangs out with a Rolling Stone writer doing an article on him. 90 minutes of sitting around pondering about life. It must be pretty good considering it made me forget how terrible Jesse Eisenberg was as Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman.

The Keeping Room -- Three women fight to save their land and their lives from Civil War soldiers. Slow. Lots of sitting there doing nothing, dramatically. This movie must have been produced by the NRA because the women get beat up and worse by physically stronger men until they get some guns as equalizers.

Age of Adaline -- Love story with Blake Lively and the relationship problems that come with never aging. Predictable at times, illogical at times, but overall a nice watch if you're in the mood for some lovey-dovey with a slice of supernatural.

Runoff -- Joanne Kelly (Warehouse 13) struggles over her decision whether to illegally dispose of chemical waste on her farm in order to have enough money to save it. Slow but questions morals and stuff.

The Shallows -- Bikini-clad Blake Lively vs. a shark. yeah. Pretty good!

Independence Day: Resurgence -- oh god make it stop.

Green Room (2015) - That escalated quickly. I didn't like the green color-correction in the non-club interior scenes. Superb acting from all.

Jason Bourne - The title should have been a warning that they'd run out of ideas for the Bourne saga. There was a lot of action and a very familiar plot, add to that it didn't jive with the other movies. Would I say don't go see it? No but I wouldn't say stay away either, it's something to see on a night out if nothing else grabs your interest. - 2.5/5

"Happiness and depression are both feelings, just like joy and anger. It's not feelings that give us problems. It's what we do with them that makes the difference."

"When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment and I told them they didn't understand life."

For an Anthony Hopkins film it wasn't great but it's a good thriller in HD if you need something to watch. I don't care much for films where the sound goes way up in parts. Good premise though.

Ghostbusters - It had its moments but this felt like one of those movies where they should have asked, "Should we do this? Is this really necessary? Will this catch on in this generation?" Answer is no but they made it anyway.

We saw this one in the theater, not realizing they'd not let us use any discount, it was too late to back out because my bf was so quick to pay. Bonk Anyways, I felt like the first half should've been cut out, it has nothing to do with the actual storyline...then we have the short but not-so-great plot itself.

Arrival

This teaser trailer looks interesting, watched the long trailer too but it gave too much away, so didn't post it. Don't know anything about this story, if it was book, graphic novel, etc. but the movie has a good cast. The release date is 11/11/16.

Was watching something else and forgot autoplay was turned on and this started playing afterwards.

Edit: At the risk of reading spoilers, I took a look at one article about the movie, it's based on a short story by Ted Chiang. Dontknow

It's a fairly spoiler free article, if you want to read it click the link below.
