A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

Monkfish 12,435 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Cowboys and Aliens - I call these "paycheck movies" ... should have been a movie of the week on a network. Don't do it or at least don't pay full price, wait for netflix.

One day over dinner our parents said, "Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go."

My belief as an American, is that if I have to start understanding the metric system, then the terrorists have won.

Source Code - Every 15 to 20 minutes in...

Oh it's so predictable.
Oh this is gonna suck.
I'm bored.
That is so sad!
I love her character!
Do it!

One of the better Sci-Fi in recent years. Moon, previous movie by the director Duncan Jones, is another gem.

I liked Source Code. Really liked Season of the Witch. I am a Sci-Fi movie lover. Source Code reminded me of a 'made for tv' movie.
I am still on a good subscription of Netflix until Sept. Smilie

Get Source Code as a 3rd choice. You wont love it but you wont hate it. It might mean more to military families because it plays upon very specific ideals and emotions.

That one is on my to-watch list.

It's probably something I'd just end up watching when it's on TV, or Instant Watch.

"The Fallen Idol" - Old British film - well acted but not all that interesting. 2/5

"Secret Reunion" - Korean drama - not bad. 2.5/5

"Incendies" - A really good Canadian movie about two kids who have to track their family history (sort of) in the Middle East. Good ending. 4/5.

"El Bola" - A pretty good film about two Spanish kids with wildly different home lives. 3.5/5

"Rules of the Game" - French - it reminded me of other movies that I didn't care for. 1/5

"Entre Nos" - Overall a pretty good film. At the very end the director kind of went for something to suprise/impress/preach in an unoriginal way which kind of spoiled it. 3/5

"Gloomy Sunday" - I think it was a made for TV movie (German) about a song that drove people to suicide in the 1930s. Pretty good. 3/5

"Lagaan" - Indian cricket movie. It kind of reminded me of "The Longest Yard" and the soccer movie "Victory" - good. 3/5.

"Un Secret" - A very predictable but still decent French movie. 3/5.

The Apu Trilogy ("Pather Panchali", "The Unvanquished", "The World of Apu") - Old Indian films that follow a boy through a series of difficult events. 2.5/5 overall.

"Pandora's Box" - A really good Turkish film about family members' self discovery while caring for an aging relative. 3.5/5

"Exporting Raymond" - A documentary by the creator of "Everybody Loves Raymond" on his attempts to remake the show in Russia. Not all that entertaining. 1.5/5.

"Alexander Nevsky" - A Soviet era anti-German film. Eh. 1.5/5

"Californication Season 3" I heart Kathleen Turner in this season. Honestly if she was my boss, I would work for her, not sleep with her just work Wink. I still hate Karen, the baby mama, her hair is so nasty and she's such a drama queen. David Duchoeny, do your thing Blowkiss 4.5/5

"Little Fockers" way to predictable and I only rooted for Jinxy (yes the furball) and Barbara Streisand. Jessica Alba was not needed in this movie. 2/5

"The Experiment" starring Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker is a must see and it makes you realize what would you for $1000 a day. Bring on the red light nod 5/5

"Insidious" friggin awesome. I loved it and it's better than 'Paranormal Activity 1 and 2'. Just tell me why in these movies, the husband is always a stupid jerk. So I guess a locked door that keeps opening up and all the other psycho crap happening around your house is just your imagination huh Ninja ? Idiot Smack 5/5

"Eureka 3.5" I like this Syfy series. I would just live in Cafe Diem. Fargo is an idiot and Jo is hilarious. I'm sick of the boss lady and Carter. Just have sex already. The black scientist is annoying. He just states stuff you already know and should be killed off. 3.5/5
