One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Finished watching the new Godzilla tonight after college football. I give it a 6.5/10. Good summer flick though a bit lame at times. I would have preferred Godzilla tear up Tokyo though.

I saw Gone Girl yesterday, had read and loved the book. Casting for the movie was pretty spot on, but felt it was too rushed - people who didn't read the book wouldn't get some of the intensity from the relationship, I think? It just didn't click for me. LMK what you think if you read the book and saw the movie or either!

The Equalizer - A really good movie. A mixture of Man On Fire (another Denzel vehicle) and Taken but a little more complicated. Purposely devoid of character development back story to leave a little wonderment and mystery but it is pulled off well. Well worth the watch.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - Easily one of my top 5 worst movies ever. Bad "acting", bad script, cheesy dialog, it's almost THREE HOURS, etc, etc, blah, blah.

Cabin in the Woods - Finally got around to seeing this and it was worth all the hype it got. Great concept, cleverly done, and just fun.

300: Rise of an Empire - Pretty bad. Not even Eva Green topless could really save it. Sequels of originally thought out and directed movies shouldn't allow different directors to just copy the general idea of the original. This and the Borne Supremacy were just cheap copies.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Mediocre movie but fun in its own way I guess. It's definitely a victim of so many 4th or 5th sequels in that the actors become bigger than the movie. So it winds up being another Wolverine movie instead of an X-Men movie.

The Best of Men - Excellent movie about a doctor treating WWII soldiers who have been paralyzed by their war injuries. Highly recommend it. 5/5

The Intouchables - Another excellent movie! About a wealthy man who is paralyzed in a paragliding accident and the young man from the projects who is hired to take care of him. Very funny and unusual and completely worth having to read subtitles. 5/5

I was watching Independent Lens and they had documentary about some Chinese twins that were separated and adopted to two families, one from Norway and the other from the US. It seemed pretty good but I missed most of it.

I am now watching Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga in concert. If I don't fall asleep, I will watch the whole thing.

i just wathed The Judge, with Robert Duvall & Robert Downey Jr.

Every scene makes its point, every line of dialogue weighs in.
But it works the material too hard - it's all so emphatic and
over-egged and improbably tied together.

action packed. one of the best performances I have seen by Reeves. a guys guy movie. 7.5/10.

I watched Bone earlier tonight on TCM and finished Generation Kill about 30 minutes ago. This is my second time watching Generation Kill and it really worth the 7+ hours.
