A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

I go through phases, honestly. Sometimes I watch at least one movie a day (and more than that on the weekends) and sometimes I go weeks without watching anything. When I get caught up in a TV show, my movie-watching dwindles.

Tonight I had some things to do around the house and some stuff to do for work, so I put in a couple movies I've seen a thousand times, just for the background noise. Varsity Blues was first laugh out loud and now it's Titanic LMAO

I'll get back to Lost tomorrow night. nod Or maybe just one episode before I go to bed....

You're almost as bad as me! I don't even own a TV and end up watching anything and everything on my PC.

With the library supplying most of viewing I watched all 14 seasons of Dallas nearly back to back. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) My average is 2 movies a day in addition to working my way through an entire TV series.

"Barry Lyndon" - An Irish/British period piece from the 1970s. Long but well acted. Kubrick.

"Monsieur Ibrahim"
- French / heartwarming - with Omar Sharif. I liked it a lot.

"Shower"
- A really sweet Chinese lighthearted drama. I liked this one too.

A while back I went to see "The Eagle" a Roman Legion flick by the guy that did "Touching the Void" - what a disappointment.

A Haunting in Connecticut - not very scary. After reading Amazon reviews about the book it's based on, not true story either.

The Tenth Circle - thought it was a thriller film, but no. I still can't tell if what the girl claimed happened really happened or not. But by the end of the film you wont care either. P.S. Kelly Preston can't act.

No time for movies lately. Too much Chuck (on season 2) and Fringe (on season 1) to watch.

I saw that a few years ago and though I can't recall many details without reading up on it, I know I did enjoy it! But I also rather enjoyed Sweeny Todd too!

Don't watch "Lost" for the character development. None of the characters really change and you'll just be pissed you invested any interest in the tailies.

What didn't you people tell me Black Swan was actually a movie about Spoiler: mother daughter sexual abuse?

The dancing was horrible and killed any interest I may have otherwise had. It would be nice to see Winona Ryder in more prominent roles again.

If you Google it many things will make sense. Like why: Nina is supposedly in her 20's but has the room of a little girl, calls her mother "Mommy", why her mother undresses her, etc... As the transformation progresses, Nina throws her stuffed animals away, finds a way to bar her bedroom door, and at one point refuses to take off her shirt when her mother demands it. She even masturbates at one point only to have a vision of her mother.

It all fell into place for me after Googling why the movie didn't make a lot of sense and finding the blog of a sexual abuse victim.

Antichrist

All I wanted was a nice little horror film but no. In less than the first 2 minutes BAM! A closeup of sexual penetration. Full on. So I skip ahead a bit wondering if this was even going to be watchable. Nope. Looks like it should have been made in the 70's and reminds me of art house avant garde abstract crap with p0rn thrown in for shock value. I'm so disappointed in Willem Dafoe for taking the role and for using a body double. Nono2

Movie trailers give everything away but plot summaries on dvd's don't tell you enough. Apparently when the case said "graphic" that meant pornographic? Which is fine but who wants to see genital mutilation? Don't answer that. vomit
