Same here... waiting on a DDR3 combo... =/
It just takes forever... =(
There was another deal for the ad today.
Its for for $25 after the rebate (Pay $40? - Sempron 140).
$50 bucks more and you get this Phenom and a chance for unlock.
If it fails, Black Editions are bada** OC's.
Just wondering if this will be an OEM or a RETAIL 550BE.
Their combos are usually retail processor AFAIK. Or at least they'd give you an aftermarket HSF to make it a complete combo I should think.
As for actually getting your hands on this deal, that's another matter. I don't get their model, why don't they just put up less aggressively priced combo deals that are more orderable online instead of tossing out ridiculous steals that turn up like easter eggs and sell out in 15 seconds on their hideously disorganized website or sparse b&m locations? I certainly won't drive out to their nearest store if I might return empty-handed.
This is a pretty damn good deal I think- especially considering the fact that you can probably unlock 1 or 2 cores on this chip- plus you're saving over 50% off the Newegg price- plus the multiplier is unlocked for easier overclocking.
I bought it, and it does in fact come in retail packaging with the heatsink. Picked-up the Antec EarthWatt 430W PSU too, but they made me order it online... so I used my phone. Pretty solid deal for a HTPC if you have some soon-to-be-useless DDR2 laying around.
Returned my Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 CPU + Biostar P43D3 ATX deal. That mobo was pretty much useless. This one has more SATA, HDMI, better audio, and is Micro ATX.
Add in unlocking a core or two and it's a realllly slick deal.
I bought the Phenom II 555 X2 + MSI 785GM-E51 combo for $105 and the BE chip unlocked to a quad and stable for me. I've done stability tests on it using OCCT. It has overclocked to 3.8ghz stable at stock voltage of 1.39V with Cooler Master Hyper 212+ . It booted at stock voltage at 4.1ghz but was not stable. I did not bother boosting voltage and simply dropped it back to 3.6ghz and called it a day idling at 32 degrees C and max loads at 46 degrees C. The stock HSF is aluminum and tiny fan maxes out at 3000rpm. It is not sufficient for using this as a Quad core as my temps exceeded 68 degrees at just 3.2ghz running stability tests.
Again, this is not a guarantee that yours will unlock but there is a potential. Also C3 revision allows Cool'n'Quiet to drop the multiplier down to 4x accompanied by voltage drop bringing it down to 800mhz saving electricity.
This definitely beats the deal I got at microcenter at the end of March. I got the X2 555BE with a GA-MA78LM-S2H for $120 after CA tax and before the $10 rebate.
This motherboard has better SATA port placement, as they won't be covered up like one of my vertical facing ports is, and has 2 more ports as well. The only I might be wary of this board is that it only has 4 back USB ports, which doesn't leave much if you use USB mouse and keyboard.
