What did Costco do wrong BlackFriday 2019?

How can a big company like Costco have a website down for even 24 hours on Black Friday?

Not only did they mistake the price on a Sono's beam where 100's (1000's?) of us got in on and sold them right out, but their site was up and down, but even when up couldn't process orders for almost all of Black Friday and the day after...


How does that happen in 2019.. it almost seems like it had to be an inside job, or some kind of hack group was causing it.. would have loved to be a fly on the wall in their data center any of the last four days. Does anyone know the inside scoop on what went down?

Just thinking of all the $ lost when people couldn't order and went to other vendors, on top of the fact that they lost tons of the Sonos beam... can't imagine the director of tech there still has a job, right?? What do you think?

Yeah I was wondering about it the same. Even with daily high traffic site like slickdeals it went down couple of times for about 30-45 mins during thanksgiving but that's all. And as big as Costco went down hours and have 24 hours of instability is blowing my mind. You would think their IT team would switch to cloudflare or use AWS load balancer.

Also what was the deal with sonos beam? Their Pric e m ist aks?

Basically it seemed like one of the best deals out there this black friday... got one delivered yesterday.. sounds good to me! Coolest thing is being able to pair it with other sonos speakers, so you get a lot of flexibility in a wireless surround sound system.

Word order doesn't matter. But yes posting in the lounge will not set off most people's alerts, unless they went out of their way to specify to alert on the whole site.

Dang, deal posted at 3:37AM EST. I had just fell asleep 30mins prior to that. Otherwise I would have a chance to score one of them. Next blackfriday i'm gonna stay up from Wednesday night to following Monday LMAOLMAOEEK!

My guess is because of the Sonos price mistake, an employee tried to fix the error but somehow misconfigured the server.

One *just* opened near us.... still a bit inconvenient for me if IF they had good deals I would consider it. From what I can tell, their offerings are on par with BJ's/Sam's (also in the area), their rewards are lower (BJ's is up to 5%, Costco is up to 2%?) and it costs more to be a member (to get that 2%). Besides the name, I don't see how this place is really going to compete with BJ's/Sam's (here at least)
