Please no OT.

This will not cover the weekly deals. See the individual threads for each week.

Different types of clearance:

1. The kind with official CVS tags on the shelves. These are usually found in many stores.
2. The kind on an endcap or special table and often have green stickers on them. These are usually specific to that store. Sometimes the discontinued items will show up at other stores with these stickers, too.

Post your finds, with as much info as possible including where you found them (on the shelf or in another place in the store). If you know of any coupons to use on the clearance items, post those too.

Different types of clearance:
1. The kind with official CVS tags on the shelves. These are usually found in many stores. Here's great detail from CVS-er here: (Please rep, this is good info to have!)

CVS has 5 stages that their clearance products go through. Four of these stages are marked by 4 seperate tags, which are the yellow tags that say CLEARANCE on them. A store may hit all 5 stages, or skip ahead to any of the further stages at any time. This decision is usually up to the store manager. Also, sometimes the item may skip ahead stages (aka get marked down further) but the staff hasn't had a chance to put out the tag reflecting the latest stage yet. (This happens at my store a lot, because we are very busy & understaffed.) The 5 stages are:

STAGE 1 - yellow tag that simply reads "CLEARANCE" (item is still full price, the tag is just alerting you that the item is being discontinued. For you guys, its an alert to keep an eye on this item as it reaches the further markdown stages)
STAGE 2 - yellow tag that reads "CLEARANCE 25% OFF - YOU PAY $X.XX" (item is now 25% off original price)
STAGE 3 - yellow tag that reads "CLEARANCE 50% OFF - YOU PAY $X.XX" (item is now 50% off original price)
STAGE 4 - yellow tag that reads "CLEARANCE 75% OFF - YOU PAY $X.XX" (item is now 75% off original price
STAGE 5 - items removed from shelf and placed in the designated general clearance area (item is now 90% off original price)[/

2. The kind on an endcap or special table and often have green stickers on them. These are usually specific to that store. Sometimes the discontinued items will show up at other stores with these stickers, too.

Some Burts Bees stuff was 50 and 75% off at my local CVS's yesterday, as well as a TON of shampoos/hair care stuff. CVS lotions were 50% off as well. Not sure if it's a regional thing or not, but i miss the days of the CVS clearance end caps with the little green price stickers. I remember finding some real gems in there, and it seemed like everything was always 75% off or more. Now days you have to walk down every aisle to see the clearance and it's usually only 50% after starting at 25%.
The end cap clearance has ended chain-wide. The occasional store still has one, but most clearance is being shipped back to warehouse for sale to T/P resellers. It was costing CVS too much in staffing to price the items individually.

Need help!
Tons of CVS brands lotions are on clearance
In the most recent RIB coupon booklet, there is $3 off any one cvs hydrating product shown.
I search CVS site but can't tell or find the one pictured in the store.
Is it a Cerave equivalant? I can barely read what it says in the tiny picture
Help. im wondering if i can use these on any "hydrating" cvs product...

Yeah that's what I was told as well when it began disappearing several months ago. I do think that they put most of it on clearance at least for a short while before sending it off. I have a "salvage/surplus/closeout" store near me that orders entire pallets of clearance/discontinued items from CVS and Rite Aid and most of the time I recognize everything they get from being on clearance at one point or another. Example that great deal on those Conair I-Stubble Razors/Groomers that CVS had @ 75% off for $14.95 (from $60) just began showing up at this discount store recently. How they weren't purchased for that price at the CVS location that they came from is beyond me.

What I've always wondered is just how cheap these retailers will wholesale their unsaleable/discontinued/etc inventory out for. This guy buys it by the pallet so it's always mixed with some junk as well as some good stuff. I just can't see it being any cheaper than the 75% off that it sometimes gets marked down to, which is why it might be easier for them just to box it up and send it off rather than dealing with it themselves.

I almost always see Target holiday clearance items at my local Goodwill maybe a month after they're salvaged. I'm guessing they must get some kind of tax credit? The pallet/truckload sales, I'm guessing, must be saving them money in the long run in staffing hours. It takes time to ticket, enter in the system, and make space for the endcap clearance.

target seasonal holiday clearance is on automatic markdown and never gets ticketed, never needs to be entered into the system and is usually salvaged instead of being put on an endcap. any seasonal holiday clearance you see on an endcap usually was inadvertantly put there, not on purpose.

they have a for profit relationship w/ goodwill so they sell it to goodwill and don't get any tax credit.

the pallet/truckload sales clears sales floor space to put full-priced items which gives them a chance for higher profit margin than clearance that for whatever reason hasn't sold within a certain period of time. you may have noticed that target brings new products in constantly and some new products to the market are clearanced out even before the tv ad hits the waves.

they removed this stuff will at least i know that the Tide Boost was at cvs one of them had it last month or in October i dont remember how long ago ... i asked the manager and was told they sent it all back
i wish i could get the stuff at 90% at the cvs in my city its been over 1 year since the last 90% off clearance!

btw i just had to make another trip as i needed raincheck for Lumene since the cvs store near my place never has any of the $3.99 or $6.99 or $6.49 stuff
and also Wipes they were out of the diapers so i had to get that my coupons are going to expire and the new P&G didn't have wipes coupons so upsetting!

Here's some of the 75% off stuff I saw today...

Several Skin Effects Products

CVS Skin Care (Neutrogena generics)

Shampoos/Hair Care

Purpose Cream

Burts Bees

SmartLean Weight Loss Supplement

A few others as well, but the vast majority of the overall clearance tickets were at 75% off which is a pretty rare find.

I was going to ask the same thing. There are no tags up at my store, so rather than scan everything in cosmetics, I'm wondering if there are any awesome deals with Qs.

Well, there are actually things better than free with coupons.

If you happen to possess those Physician's Formula coupons(EXP.12/31/12) found at Walmart a while ago, not only do they make the clearanced eye/face creams($4.xx-$5.xx) free, the overage goes to cover anything in the same transaction and even tax if you don't scan your card first.
