Sorry, I have confused the issue.
The "customer appreciation" offer was being added automatically. I did not use a coupon on my purchase. (Horrors) I guess it's possible that the "customer appreciation" offer was only added to purchases that did not otherwise include a coupon.
The information about the 25% back in rewards coupon was to provide the language that the 25% back blocked the otherwise qualified purchase from being a qualified purchase.

I used my Staples Rewards amount to pay partial for my online order and used my credit card to pay for the rest. Today when I took the item to the store for return (purchased the wrong size) the store manager only credit me back what I had used my credit card to pay for. I did not receive anything from my reward amount. Manager informed me that I have to call Staples reward department and they will re-issue the refund back to my reward account. I have never done this and Staples reward department has been close after I leave the store. So will I get my reward re-issue tomorrow when I call them?
