So, the below is what I have worked up so far. This is a work in progress and now I am looking for corrections/input/suggestions.

For example, what other information is wanted or what information included below is not wanted.

FAQ section (vers. 2016.05.20):

Q. Do you have to recycle or make a qualified purchase first? (OD/OM)

A. It does not matter.

Q. Do you have to recycle and make a qualified purchase monthly for Office Depot's Rewards program?

A. Three key points:

--- Qualified purchases of $10 or more in a month are required to allow recycling rewards points to be earned for that month.
--- Rewards points are paid out in 1000 point increments.
--- Unpaid out points carry over from month to month until the end of the quarter when they expire.

Here is an example:

January: Make qualified purchases of $10 or more and recycle 7 carts earning 1400 rewards points. Payout of $10 for January (made in February). The remaining 400 rewards points are carried over to February.

February: Do not make a qualified purchase of $10 or more so not qualified to earn recycling rewards points. 400 rewards points carried over to March.

March: Make qualified purchases of $10 or more and recycle 9 carts earning 1800 rewards points. Payout of $20 (2000 points: 400 carried over plus 1600 earned in March) (made in April). The remaining 200 rewards points expire at the end of quarter.

Q. Where can I get used ink/toner cartridges?

A. Family and friends, neighbors, thift shops, garage/rummage sales, and of course like everything else, eBay.

Q. If I purchase an item with rewards will that purchase count my purchase requirement for recycling?

A. No, to the extent the purchase was paid for with rewards it will not count as a qualifying purchase for the purpose of the recycling purchase requirement.

Q. If I purchase an item with rewards will I earn the standard purchase rewards?

A. No, items purchased with rewards do not qualify as qualifying purchases for the purpose of earning standard purchase rewards.

Q. If I purchase an item that earns a bonus/special reward (100% back in rewards if item X is purchased, $Y back if item Z is purchased) and I purchase that item with rewards, will I receive the bonus/special reward?

A. No, to the extend paid for with rewards (or coupons for that matter).

Hi! I read the wiki and lots of posts, but I just want to be sure before I purchase ink today. I ran out of HP ink and want to do the Staples triple recycling deal that started today. Is it true that the $50 of HP ink that I buy (to get the triple recycling) can't be purchased with Staples rewards? I want to use a coupon too, so I realize that the $50 needs to be after the coupon, but I can't pay for the $50 using my Staples rewards and get the triple recycling right?

Also, can I turn in all 10 of my ink carts at the same time and get credit for both the triple (5 carts) and the regular recycling? (5 carts) Thanks for you help. Will rep of course!
$50 of cold hard cash after coupons/rewards. You can turn in 10 and get $6x5 and $2x5. You can repeat this deal from 11/1-11/3 for November but you would have to buy another $50 in ink and turn in another 5 carts.May or may not be a better deal later in November.

"Triple recycling offer valid 10/28/12–11/3/12. Limit 5 recycled cartridges per customer. *Recycle any ink or toner cartridge, up to 10 per calendar month per customer, and receive $2 back in Staples Rewards® per cartridge. We will recycle additional cartridges but Rewards will only be issued for 10 per calendar month per customer. Your ink Recycling Rewards are issued monthly, separately from your standard Staples Rewards® statement. Ink resellers and remanufacturers are strictly prohibited from earning Ink Recycling Rewards. For full program details, visit staplesRewards.com. Price eligible for Rewards is the amount paid at checkout after application of all promotions, coupons and Rewards redemptions. **Staples Rewards® membership is FREE. Limit one Staples Rewards® account per person or at any mailing address. Staples Rewards® are issued online monthly when the value of the Reward is at least $10. Rewards expire no less than 60 days after issuance. Monthly balances of less than $10 will roll over each month until the minimum is met for that calendar quarter. If the $10 minimum for the quarter has not been met, the balance will expire at the end of the quarter. HP ink and toner not included. For full program details, visit staplesrewards.com. ***Spend $50 on HP ink in one transaction and earn $6 back in Staples Rewards® per recycled cartridge on same day of qualifying purchase. Limit of 5 recycled cartridges .

Thanks so much for the Staples info! I thought that might be the case, but just wanted to make sure. Hopefully I can use a regular Staples gift card (that I purchased at Albies) to count as the cold hard cash. Repped X4.

Staples gift cards are cash equivalents. No issues with doing that.

Thanks again for the info! I was pretty sure I had done that before. At least I got free groceries when I purchased the Staples gift card. I hope they bring back the free groceries with a gift card deal soon. It wouldn't let me rep ya again. Have a lovely day!

Sign up for OM (you'll have $20 credit for November & then again for December). You will need to make "qualified purchases" of $40 before 12/31.

OfficeMax is currently running a Maxperks special for case and ream paper. Buying the case paper would qualify for your $40 OOP cost. Bvph does a great job with these deal posts. Current one is here: http://slickdeals.net/f/5421872-OfficeMax-MaxPerks-Bonus-Rewards-offers-11-04-11-10-9-99-a-rewards-case-paper-1-a-rewards-ream-paper?t=5421872

OD is a bit of the roll of the dice as I'm not sure if they will run another 100% back in rewards promotion.

Staples takes anything. I only do Staples recycling and have recycled HP 02s in the past. Never an issue.

question: If I purchase a laptop with cash on my maxperks account, will it count toward releasing my ink recycling rewards?

Nope, I was at OD last night & they verified I could not release my ink rewards by buying a computer, tablet, or ereader and a few other exclusions. Good luck!

There appears to be some confusion here. Computers are qualified purchases to release recycling at Office Depot but are not qualified purchases to release recycling at OfficeMax.

Office Depot has a separate qualifying purchase definition for recycling:
Worklife Rewards® and Star Teacher Members get $2 back in Recycling Rewards for each cartridge recycled in-store, up to 10 per month, when you make qualifying Office Depot® purchases. Recycling Rewards will not exceed the amount of your total qualifying Office Depot® purchases made within a Reward period. Qualifying purchases exclude taxes; delivery fees; postage stamps; and prepaid gift, debit, phone or services cards; and purchases made with Office Depot Rewards and Merchandise Cards/Certificates.
OfficeMax does not have a separate qualifying purchase definition for recycling:
Total recycling reward dollars issued for recycling may not exceed your total MaxPerks program qualified purchase balance.
...
Qualifying purchases are any products or services in our stores, catalogs or web site except for computers, tablets, eReaders, US postage stamps, gift cards, general use prepaid cards, phone cards, purchases with Retail ConnectSM pricing, sales tax, purchases made prior to the date of enrollment, and purchases made with your MaxPerks rewards. You will start earning credit for purchases made with your MaxPerks member ID the day you sign up.
