After two easy rolls, I couldn't do it today. CS person said the gift card name (there is no name, LOL) didn't match mine. And then she called a manager who said there was an email about not accepting gift cards. I didn't believe them and said I did it yesterday. He wouldn't budge; so I put it on my credit card.

Which is ridiculous as the cc could be stolen but the gift card either has money or it doesn't.
Then I got 3 packs of chicken with $2 off stickers on it and paid 28c.
It's an annoying store but worth it. I will just use the Visa card to pay for other good deals; luckily I could afford to put it on my cc and get points.

My PM also is beyond competent. The front end guy who always have an attitude & is a "no" guy insisted that they can not accept CC's for GC purchases. I decided to look in their policy folder at the CS desk. It states that GC purchases over $200 required a valid ID. I showed him that & he insisted its wrong. Called over the store mgr, who proceeded to ask this guy. The guy was a jerk & said they cant do it. I said "who is the authority here" & the mgr said "I am". I told him to take all the info off my drivers license & write it on their backup, & he did. So while it was allowed, it was a PITA to go throgh all that. Then I explained to the mgr that I always have a problem when I shop there, to which the front end idiot said "Then why do you keep coming here!". The mgr had to calm him down. He makes up his own rule. On previous occations, he had a problem accepting my internet coupons, even though it clearly stated "We accept internet coupons" on the flyer; Then another time they had a one day sale flyer, which has the standard verbiage "we will sustitute a simmilar item for an out of stock item or issue a raincheck. Even after showing the idiot this on their 1 page flyer, he said it was wrong, that they can not substitute another 24 pack of water for the one advertised, or issue a r/c.

To make matters worst, after getting the three $20 cats, I did a small order, which included the Juniors cheezecake on sale for $9.99. I only noticed it at the endcap freezer with the big sigh. I purchased 8 items, & 2 wrang up higher. The cheezecake rang up for $14.49. I took it to the CS deask, & of course he wouldnt let the girl take care of it, he ran over...He's looking at the shelf tag, looking at the cheezecake. The next words out of his mouth were " This is the wrong item- the tag says 24 ounces, but the cheezecake shows 1.5 pounds". Cant do it. I had to school him that there are 16 ounces in a pound, therefore 1.5 pounds equals 24 ounces. Geesh! Then he told the girl to do it - no apologies, no nothing. I asked her what their policy was if the items scanned higher - she said they just refund the difference. So I went back to their policy folder to see what was written. They had on the front cover of the binder "Coupon Policy" "Promotions" "Scanner Policy". So I searched, no scanner policy. Called over the mgr, & he said that he'll make sure they put that policy in there, but all they do is refund the difference. I called Corp just now, & sure enough, was told they refund the difference & give you the first item free, up to $10. So I should have gotten my cheezecase & banquet meal free. The banquet was advertized at $1.25 but rang up at $1.40. I'm in Long Island, NY.

So ppl, while you are getting your GC's pick up a Juniors 24 oz cheezecake - it might just ring up wrong, & you'll get yourself a free cheezecake!

Now I'm scared to try this deal because my one and only Pathmark is beyond incompetent and Lord knows what song and dance they'll offer up if these cats don't print but I think I'll be brave because free groceries are too much to resist and if all fails I'll just load the funds from the GC into my Serve account and then back to my bank account Big Grin

Thanks for all the tips, I'm off to look for the silver Visa with the present on it! woot
Can you explain how you get these converted into cash into you bank account pls? Thx

I dont learn my lesson! Went back to the same Pathmark to get another cheezecake - & it rang up wrong again. Went to CS to get my free item up to $10 like Corp told me on the phone this morning-no go. They called Corp & was told a different policy. I came home & called Corp & insisted on a copy of their official scanning policy. Heres what I received (grammar erros & all):

Scanning Policy for all A&P's, The Food Emporium's, Waldbaums, Pathmark and Superfresh stores
(except Philadelphia and Pathmark in all of New York)

SCANNING POLICY

If an item scans higher than the tag, sign, marked price or ad, the customer receives that item free. This is for purchases up to $10.00

o Items over $10.00 will be scanned at the correct retail and then have $10.00 deducted off the correct retail
oAny additional items purchased will be sold at the correct retail
o The cashier will give the item for free if the scanning error is discovered during the transaction
o Scanning errors discovered after the transaction will be handled by either the Front End Manager or the Service Desk

Scanning Policy for Pathmark (All NY Stores)

SCANNING POLICY

If an item scans higher than the tag, sign, marked price or ad, the customer receives one of that item at the advertised price with remaining quantities are give at the correct retail. (Exactly as it was written)

Scanning Policy for All Philadelphia Stores

Philadelphia stores follow city codes:

Chapter 9-1802 (2) (d)
"The retail food establishment must adopt and adhere to a policy that provides that if a retail customer purchases an item and the checkout scanning system registers a higher price than that displayed on the item itself or on a shelf tag, then the customer shall receive one of that item free of charge."

Chapter 9-1800 (2)
"ITEM: A class of product offered for sale, each of the same brand name, quantity of contents, retail price and variety, except that "item" shall not include non-food items, food items intended to be consumed on or about the retail premises, items which are sold through vending machines, produce, packages under 3 cubic inches in size, dairy products eggs, gum or candy bars."

OK-- I read that some folks are showing their cc and their license and then scanning the GC -- I hope to try that this weekend... once they look at your cc they aren't paying attention anymore....

any comments?

I ran the GC through first and then put it in my purse and gave her my cc and license when she asked for it. They have to get an approval code and once they put it in you are good to go! I was nervous doing it today but it really was easier than I thought . I think I will have to do it again...The cats don't expire til 12/20!

at my store they ask for the card and license first. so I'd have to make a quick switch a roo. I am assuming the system doesn't flag anything?

My husband and I got such a laugh about the 24 oz, 1 1/2 lb story. He says that is what America is coming to...

I got brave & went to 2 other Pathmarks & did the switcharoo with the CG & CC when it came time to swipe.. First put my CC & DL down after the cashier rung up the $500 GC. Then he called CS & told them I had a GC transaction & presented ID. He checked the name on the CC, matched it up to my DL, then gave them both back to me. He told me to swipe the CC so I swiped the MC I bought the other day. Then I got nervous as he said "Let me see the card again?", so I was all jittery pulling the card out of the batch of cards/receipts I had. It was all good in the end. Then I decided right away to do a rinse & repeat, got a Visa this time. I just told him I didnt notice the Visa so I bought the MC first, & wished I could "exchange" it. Then I said never mind, I'll just purchase anohter one. He asked again & CS said yes, as long as DL matches up the the CC. He asked me to swipe again, so I did the switcharoo & swiped the MC I purchased 5 mins ago. I of course gave him $6 in cash first, then swiped the $500 MC as payment for the Visa. All he needed was a "number" from CS & we were done!

I got to do one last transaction at another PM on my way back from the DR's. I only had the guts to do it once though. All in all, 4 transactions using the rinse & repeat method!

I suggest the switcharoo to anyone thats not too nervous!

Didn't work for me; gave her the DL and CC and then she watched LIKE A HAWK and said, oh be sure you swipe the card I verified. ARGH, another $500 on my cc...

I figure I can buy Shell gc at the regular register tomorrow? just to use the GC?

Darn it - I had to pick up my DS in another town, so left early to stop at their Pathmark. Was ready to do the switcharoo - the guy was so nice - I told him I'm getting Pathmark rewards PLUS my cc rewards, & he was so amazed. Then when it was time to pay - foolish me didnt have the $6 for the fee. The guy already put in $505.95 & told me to swipe my card, & I told him I wanted to pay the fee with my debit card. He told me to press the red cancel button but it wouldnt cancel the transaction. He tried too to cancel the transaction & it didnt work. Then he called over another cashier, who was more interested in asking him in a loud whisper if he checked my ID. She said I cant pay with 2 forms of payment, so I quickly swiped what I thought was the $500 visa card from the last roll, waiting for the balance fo $5.95 to pop up. Then he says "Youre all done!" & I wondered what the heck just happened. In my haste to swipe the visa I swiped my actual CC which was the same silver color! Now I'm stuck with two GC's for $500 each. I have figure out how to pay bills with them now. I thibnk after $300 minus fees I'm good! But if I'm near a Pathmark anytime in the next few days I will be sure to try again.

Good luck folks!

yep; I have 1500 on a those cards now....

Since I read Shell works, I may just buy $100 of that, get the $10 cat; assuming I can do that at the register. But I am game to try again... will use the cards for groceries the whole year.

Went to a different PM; older workers in CS who were so focused in making the split transaction (using cash for the fee) they didn't notice the switch-a-roo.... Smilie

I'm sorry, I didn't see this...do you have a Serve card/account?

If so you just load the funds from your GCs into the account and then transfer them to your linked bank account or just withdraw it at the ATM. There are monthly limits but the cards don't expire for years. It's only free to do the transfers until March of next year though. Folks also do something similar wirth Amazon Payments but I'm not sure how that works.

This is really great info! I wasn't even going to try this deal until I saw this.

Can I just ask you about some details?

1) I have a Serve account and my account is linked to my bank account can I transfer the funds to my bank account without any amount limits?
2) How do I initially load the funds from the gift card to my serve account? Are there any fees from the gift card's side?

Thanks so much for the info!
